Dr. Louis Ira Sobel, MD

Dr. Sobel has been my MD for many years and I am finally quitting due to his chaotic office and even more important his incommunicative and ever colder and careless manner. Avoid him. Not at all professional.

Fit me for contacts when others failed. Can't wait to ski in them this winter. Staff nice and no compalints.

Dr. Sobel was recommended to me by a close friend who has been his patient for over 15 years. I had not mentioned that fact until I was finished my regime of treatment which lasted a few weeks. In reading these posts seems most of you must have attended a different office than I did - I personally found him to be not only professional and courteous but his quality of care for a patient is OUTSTANDING!! With all my appointments (and I was going at least 3x per week) I never waited more than 10 minutesWith regard to his front end staff - only Bobby and the older woman were up to par with regard to following protocol and extending themselves and assisting other patients with insurance issues - the office manager was rude to patients and her co-workers, inconsistent in information to patients, inappropriately attired, and extremely off-handed in her remarks - I saw a patient wait to pick up contacts before I saw the Dr. and was still at the front desk after my visit, while the worker was… rudely talking to either a patient or an HMO - the Dr. himself ended up taking care of the patient. Again - it is quality of care and coordination of benefits so that patients understand that make an office workflow more streamlined. Bobby dedicated, professional and appropriate when handling scheduling, registration, insurance plans, etc. My only question is why isn't Bobby the Office Manager??

Dr. Sobel was unfriendly and uncaring. The wait was long and I didn't receive an apology or even a smile. He was very cold. He gave me a prescription that was way to strong. After finishing the eye exam, he sat me next door. Someone came out and tried to convince me to get frames from there. I choose not to and had to call three times to get my script faxed over. He billed both my vision and medical insurance the same amount. I spoke to my medical insurance and it turns out Dr. Sobel put down that I had a medical procedure as well as some sort of eye condition. Neither of which is true. I had a five minute eye exam and paid through the nose. I had never even heard of the condition and had none of the symptoms. I couldn't believe it. Are there any honest people left out there??? Dr. Sobel received money from both insurance companies and then sent me a bill for between $150 and $170. (I don't remember the amount off hand) use this guy at your own risk!!!

Sobel's practice is the worst I've ever been to in all of the places I've lived around the world. He has ZERO bedside manner, and his office staff is simply terrible. They're rude, unprofessional, discourteous individuals. The eye glass person wasn't at all helpful, wouldn't order a new frame (take only from stock) and I've never had glasses fit more poorly in my life. Stay far far away from this practice.

I woke up with the worst pink eye. A friend at work recommended Dr. Sobel. I called the office and they said "come right in." The office as a whole was very helpful. Since then, I have been back several times, for contacts and glasses.

Most thorough eye exam I have ever had. Was able to treat my dry eye when others had failed. Participates is alot of insurance plans, so I was able to stay with him when I changed jobs, which is a plus.

My entire family and friends have used Doctor Sobel for years. I recommend him to everyone in my office too.

Wait time over an hour, staff billed the wrong insurance co (even though that made xerox of my card) he refused to sort it out. I wound up paying cash for it out of my pocket because he would not work with my insurance company or admit his staff is incompetant! What an incredible JERK! Avoid this guy. He is a total waste of space!
