Dr. Louis H. Weimer, MD

Deliberately avoids his patients, which is a bizarre thing for a doctor to do. If you google "patient abandonment" you'll have a good descriptor of the "care" he provides.

If you google "patient abandonment" you'll see a description of Dr. Weimer's care. He doesn't respond to critical messages OR phone calls, even when you repeatedly leave messages with his office staff and they promise to let him know. We're talking about month long delays.

His misdiagnosis lead to permanent damage to my body. He is a very bad practicioner.

Poor - He built his practice and career writing articles about drug induced neuropathy. (btw, several of these article are only available overseas). - When he is provided with a person who has exactly what he describes, he will not give a diagnosis. If you are a patient, check your diagnosis. If you have damage from Flagyl/Metronidazole, the diagnosis code should be G62.0 Drug-induced polyneuropathy. He will not select that code because a peer will be liable for the damage. Instead, the code will be G62.9, Polyneuropathy, unspecified. By saying unspecified, he can still treat you but keep his peers out of trouble. - Columbia would not even look at my wife's imaging. I had to call the CEO to try to get proper medical attention and they still declined. I would not waste your time. What is the use of going to a doctor that cannot tell you the truth?

My wife and I went to see Dr. Weimer based on his research and his positioning as an expert. Dr. Weimer was very straight forward that my wife had nerve damage from taking a prescription medication - metronidazole/flagyl. We provided all historical data including a time line, pictures and imaging. Since Dr. Weimer is not a radiologist, I took my wife's images to Columbia radiology. My wife is suffering for serious damage. The problem I have with Dr. Weimer, is that he has an inability to take what he writes and apply it. Dr. Weimer has been at this game for a long time. Here is how it works. There are billing codes that are assigned to the doctors diagnosis. My wife's damage came from when she took metronidazole/flagyl for chronic diarrhea. The material safety data sheet that comes with the drug clearly points out what can happen if the drug is not properly administered. The exact problems that can happen are exactly what happened to my wife. We asked Dr. Weimer… to provide a diagnosis. He will not provide a code of G62.0 because someone will be liable for the administration of the drug. Instead, he will pick G62.9. He will say you definitely have polyneuropathy, but you can never be sure what it is from. • o BILLABLE G62.0 Drug-induced polyneuropathy o BILLABLE G62.1 Alcoholic polyneuropathy o BILLABLE G62.2 Polyneuropathy due to other toxic agents o G62.8 Other specified polyneuropathies NON-BILLABLE o BILLABLE G62.9 Polyneuropathy, unspecified I could not even get him or Columbia imaging to look at my wife's imaging. I called the CEO in an effort to get proper medical attention and then received multiple calls as to why I wanted to have the imaging reviewed. There is a major lack of integrity and I would not waste my time.

I have been treated by Dr Weimer for several years and he has been very helpful with my "issue" and his treatment has stabilized my condition.

I am a 65 year-old physician who recently developed symptoms and signs of peripheral neuropathy. Dr. Weimer performed a history and physical, and an EMG-NCV exam, and diagnosed Charcot Marie Tooth disorder, a genetic neuropathy. I felt he was thorough, compassionate, and spent enough time with me to learn about my symptoms and physical findings. Other doctors had been baffled by my disease, including a neurology professor at University of Chicago, and several physicians in my community. I highly recommend Dr. Weimer to anybody suffering from peripheral neuropathy who wants an accurate diagnosis, and correct treatment.

Great with communication. I have idiopathic neuropathy and it is very frustrating to me and other doctors when cause can't be found. More than pain from PN I am having trouble with crashing fatigue. His interest in autonomic disorders so I am going for a battery of tests to figure out if BP fluctuations causing this. I feel like he has a plan for me.. laid everything out, what drugs might help. Dr Weimer is one of the few doctors out of many I have seen in months that really is there for me.

I was not the patient today but was the person that recommended the Neurological Institute. I have a son that Dr.Darryl DeVivo treated back in the 1990's. Excellent Dr. that gave my son the opportuntity for a new life by brain surgery after exhausting all means. I am not unfamiliar with dealing with neurological issues but do know when a Dr. is not prepared for a visit and sends in an intern to cover when he is actually running behind schedule. That is exactly what happened today. My future daughter-in-law has autonomic issues. An MRI was scheduled and completed today . We drove over three hours to this appointment and was told the Dr. would be prepared to discuss the MRI. The appointment time was 1 and he did not come in to see her until probably 1:40. Even that is not the issue . He sent another Dr. in to review her history which actually made no difference to her appointment . It was a filler due to him running behind schedule. Which again I do not care about but be prepared… for your patient. He provided little information , mentioned a few medications which she had already tried and offered little other advice but continue with exercise. See you in a year. How frustrating. Why not do a phone conference if there is nothing to offer. Again, I am not your typical support person. I have sat years in hospitals and dealt with all kinds of Dr.'s. I expect more from my physician . I know and understand that there are some diseases that are difficult to treat. I had 15 years of waiting. Not that Dr. Weimar is not unsympathetic but my first impression was that he had nothing to offer. I expect more from and have had more from this facility.
