After my son was in the NICU we were told to take a heart monitor home. If you have never experienced having to have your child on a heart monitor 24/7, it is awful. After a few months we went for a follow up with Dr. Abdurrahman. She was informed he was on the monitor for an episode of tachycardia while in the NICU and had no further episodes since having his PIC line removed. She still insisted on keeping the heart monitor strapped to my child for A FULL YEAR! Not only was this not necessary for my child's health and well being but it was going to cost $600 a month for the monitor and home visits from a nurse to download the information. She offered no other alternatives and acted as if my child life you be in danger if I didn't follow her orders. I went to Cincinnati Children's and got a second opinion and he was taken off the heart monitor! I had to monitor his heart rate with a stethoscope at every diaper change and bring him straight to the emergency room if any tachycardia was… identified. I dont reccomend anyone see Dr. Abdurrahman, she didn't care about saying my son had to drag a heart monitor around with him for the first year of his life unnecessarily. If I hadn't got a second opinion my sons developmental milestones would have been much more delayed due to being attached to a machine. Not to mention the extreme loudness of the machine made it difficult to do anything in public. Oh and a little thing called SLEEP! As if parents aren't sleep deprived enough with a newborn, the machine would go off and wake everyone up only for it to be a FALSE alarm! The machine never had a true detection of anything wrong, every time it went off it was false, real helpful to have a machine going off constantly that isn't detecting the right thing.
