Dr. Luke Carlos Fornari, MD

Dr Fornari was excellent during my 2day unexpected stay at Wilcox Hospital during my vacation. He worked quickly to help me through my illness and still enjoy my trip. I was impressed to get a call the day after discharge by Dr Fornari, to see how I was feeling.

Dr. Fornari was the doctor in charge of caring for a family member. Diagnosis of the illness was unclear and when the family asked the doctor if they could get a second opinion, he became really defensive. Although he agreed to arrange for the second opinion at a different hospital, that never seemed to happen. The specialist in charge was out of the office (we only have one) and although the patients condition got worse, the doctor made no effort to get the patient to a different location where a specialist was available. After his week long shift was over, the doctor that replaced Dr. Fornari recognized that the patient required more specialized care and immediately made arrangements. The patient was tranferred in a few hours. My suggestion when dealing with this particular doctor and hospital is to do all the research you can and ask him the harder questions. Because he is really unsure what is happening (clueless), as in this case, he will try to talk over your head and is… unable to explain things in a way that the family members can understand. If you ask him to clarify, he gets irritated and upset. Rest assured, we will get to the bottom of this. Practice such as this is way too common here and it's time for residents to stand up and fight for better health care. Reality is, the pay for doctors here is low. As such, we usually get the short end of the stick. Not saying all doctors here are bad, I'm just saying that like anything else, you get what you pay for. Based on this experience, I will never for any reason step into this hospital or have Dr. Fornari be responsible for the health and well being of any of my family members.
