Dr. Luke Edward Hofkamp, MD

While trying to get off of Fentynal that had progressed into a HEAVY IV drug habit, I found myself being told by treatment facilities close to me that they were either full or I needed to be "offically" referred before going. After almost 2 days of being denied help, I was now in bad stages of withdrawal, which contrary to popular belief, can actual be deadly. I was at a loss of what to do and was beginning to worry that I was going to have to feed my habit a bit longer continuing with more IV drugs. I decided to go to another local ER room to see if there was anything they could do to help me stay clean. I wound up getting Dr. Hofkamp who was the most compassionate and caring doctor I have ever encountered! He knew the horrible spot I was in and knew that since it was now a weekend, that there was no way I would make it to Monday clean. He gave me one day's worth of medication to keep the withdrawal at bay until I could go to the drug treatment facility I had been accessed at to find… a place I could safely detox. I was a drug addict, so I know how most ER doctors are when someone like me come in. Most are rude and treat you as if you are the worst of the worst and I have never had one give me any kind of opiate. (Except for when going in for a serious issue causing pain before my addiction) He took the time to actually listen to me, and knew that I was at a pivotal moment of staying clean and getting treatment on Monday or leaving there and using again. I am so glad he was there to help me that night because I know I would've wound up using. I would have had to start the whole process of stopping again. Thank you Dr. Hofkamp for seeing the pain I was in at that moment and having faith in me to continue not using until I found a place to safely detox. You are awesome!!
