Dr. Lyla Jean Blake-Gumbs, MD

I had to ask for blood work that I should have with my hashimotos , the communication was poor through my chart. Kept getting the run around, with lab work. Sending to the wrong hospital even though I gave all the info, then was told they don’t know where to send it. I think she’s too busy and not tuned into the eindividual patient. Her and the assistant are not in the same page at all. Conflicting info. Not happy . I will be looking for a new doctor. individual patient. I drive 1 1/2 hours to be frustrated. Also was told to fast for blood work from assistant, when I got there Dr Gumbs didn’t even mention it. End of day lab was closed. Ugh!!

Went to Dr Blake for my intake apptmt at CCFM. She was impatient , with a lousy bedside manner and several times told me she " doubted" or that she "never heard of" what I was telling her about my health history and/or my current problems! Not a caring Dr and I will never go back to her or recommend her.

I saw Dr Blake-Gumbs for the first time this morning and had an extraordinarily positive experience. She was professional, yet approachable, the latter being a rare trait within her profession and also highly knowledgeable within her varied practice areas. Dr Blake-Gumbs was responsive to each of my questions in a very forthright and transparent manner. She made a number of new, great suggestions, half of which had never been shared with me by other practitioners and all of which I look forward to trying. She was encouraging and supportive which left me with renewed confidence in managing my own health more productively. I have seen many doctors in my 52 years and would most certainly put her among the very very best. I offer my highest praise for Dr. Blake-Gumbs.

Only problem --- had to wait a long time to get an appointment.

I went with Migraines and headaches complaints. She says she'll order labs but doesn't order the right one when I report to the lab. Her messages to me contain the wrong dosages on my RXs leaving me confused. She gives me a 30 day diet that on one page says eat this and on the next page says don't eat that same thing. When I tell her, she says Oh, you had the old one -- Thanks a lot! She tells me to get some expensive vitamins and pro-biotics that do absolutely nothing. In my 2nd appt. she talks about my migraine progress and totally confuses it with my nausea. It was a pointless and useless appt. I told her there was no need for a follow up. I could of done better on my own on the internet. She doesn't dress like an MD and wears these low cut blouses where you basically can see half of her breasts. I'm baffled as to what her purpose is...

I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about, because she was on time, polite and forthcoming with information. I really like her bedside manner and she is very approachable. I would definitely recommend her to my friends and family.

She is an excellent doctor who takes the time to answer all you questions. I emailed her and she responded within 24 hours. Very nice bedside manner and great sense of humor. She knows her stuff and takes the time to explain everything.

Overall appointment was ok. However I was completely surprised to see her text messaging throughout our time together. She also swore a few times which I really didn't mind but struck me as unprofessional. Finally, have been waiting several weeks for response to message I left for her via a nurse.

Engaged in personal text messaging during visit. Treated medical student/assistant dismissively. Attempted to withhold medical advice based on her own (incorrect) judgment that I couldn't afford to purchase dietary supplements. When urged to advise further, in spite of her assumption, she did so.
