Dr. Lyle C. Yanagihara was born in Honolulu and raised in the small town of Wahiawa. A graduate of Leilehua High School, Dr. Yanagihara remains grounded in his humble beginnings and local values. He attended Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska receiving a Bachelors of Arts in Psychology (Magna cum laude) and a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree (Cum laude). He then did a one year junior fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He returned to the Midwest and completed a four year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. There he also received a Master's of Science degree where his thesis dealt with the osseointegration (the fusion of the implant to bone) of dental implants when serving as anchors for othodontic tooth movement, a procedure widely used by Orthodontist today.

He served as Chief of the Division of Dentistry at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children from 1998 - 2010. He is currently the Chief of Dental Surgery at Hawaii Medical Center East. A position he has held since 2001.
