I had stellar care from Dr. Rao and her assistant. I felt well informed, listened to and safe.

I am 74 and have good health, strength, energy and peace of mind. My family and friends say I look and act 10 years younger. Maybe not, but over the years care and surgeries at UCSF and the annual visits to Dr Rao have played a huge, positive role I my good health today.

Dr. Rao is insightful and very professional, she anticipates needs and potential questions.

I found Dr. Rao extremely unhelpful. I came with specific questions and concerns regarding Hashimoto's. Not only did Dr. Rao make the argument that because of institutionalized compartmentalizations of specialties, my body should be treated like none of its parts are connected to one another but she claimed "we just don't have the tools" needed to answer my questions. All the tests I requested have been researched as relevant for thyroid homeostasis, so this claim made no sense whatsoever. On top of this clinician (who I was seeing for the first time) being rude and defensive, in general this place was unprepared (didn't have my medical records, which according to the referring doctor were faxed over). The doctor also gave me the name of someone who might be able to help me but without actually filling or a referral, making it super difficult for me to be seen by them. If you can't go to an endocrinologist for what is primarily an endocrinological disorder at one of the top research… universities, where are you supposed to go? The answer: literally anywhere else where they treat you like a person.
