Dr. Magda Elise Melchert, MD

4 years I was under her care for my "extremely complicated" ITP diagnosis. This included chemo therapy, IVIG, both oral and infused steroids (4 years of constant steroids) weekly injections,and finally, a splenectomy, which I was informed was my last resort, that it may or may not work but there were no other options. When the splenectomy failed to help the platelets she presented herself being frustrated and even somewhat annoyed She then suggested I see someone else, she was out of ideas. I went to Moffitt and took her lab report for the initial visit. Within the first 10 minutes with the doctor, he said I did not have ITP, rather Lupus. He drew this conclusion from HER report. He sent me to see a rheumatologist, who did labs specifically designed to diagnose Lupus, and it was.... Lupus! Lupus can cause ITP, but ITP cannot cause Lupus. I spent 4 years, with no quality of life, being infused and orally taking medications that were not necessary and had no chance of… helping me. She was just reacting to platelet levels as opposed to working to find the root of my issue. She said I was the most complicated ITP case she had seen yet the appointments were generally two to three months apart with most being seen by her PA. She presented herself,the few times I actually saw her, frustrated with my health situation and lack of progress. She had little compassion, became offended by questions, and I felt she was annoyed that she had to deal with me. Now I know why. MISDIAGNOSIS!!!! My advise to you, stay away. Don't allow her to touch you!

Dr. Melchert has been wonderful in my care. Of all the doctors I now have to see, she has been the most professional. She is on time and explains things to me in great detail. I am thankful for the attention she has paid to detail in regarding my care. Note: I see her for a autoimmune illness that is hematology related.

A truly caring & informative doctor. She explained all our options completely, & helped us make a wise treatment decision. We feel blessed to have had her guiding us on this difficult journey.

For 9 long days had us thinking my father had late stage cancer until the tests she should have got from the beginning proved that he actually was in perfect health, no cancer. My family has PTSD because of her.....

Dr. Melchert's incompetence was nearly fatal. She should not be practicing medicine.

She has a God simplex and no regard for the patient. She thinks she knows EVERYTHING. She is rude, crude, and socially unacceptable. She is the most incompetent "doctor", and I use this term loosely, I have ever met! She is unwilling to listen to the patient and when you try to change doctors she talks them into rejecting you and you are left with no oncologist AT ALL. Personally I do not think she is qualified to be ANYONE'S so-called doctor. She enrages me with her arrogance and her inexperience is very apparent. She condescends like you have no right to speak and treats you like you should feel privileged to be in her presence. My previous oncologist was the exact opposite and I was with him for fifteen years, but unfortunately he retired. The American Medical Association should pull her license to practice any kind of medicine at all.

I've had to watch my best friend sit through this doctor's care recently, and it's horrible. She refuses to come see her and instead calls her hospital room on the phone then hangs up on her mid-sentence. The attitude and time spent with her are minimal, if that, and I can't wait for her to be assigned to a different specialist altogether.

Dr. Magda Melchert currently treats my Mother. She is so caring, "hears" what we have to say, answers every question with enough detail that a layperson can connect the dots and is extremely professional. Having dealt with MANY physicians in MANY areas of expertise, I find Dr. Melchert to be one of the kindest. It is clear that Dr. Melchert is a highly intelligent individual..perfectly suited for her field.

I've worked in the medical field for 40 years & I know doctors. Dr Melchert has taken care of me very well.
