As a quadriplegic with 24 years of experience and extensive training from one of the top rehabilitation facilities in the U.S., Craig Hospital, I am well-versed in the care requirements for my condition. Unfortunately, Dr. Varma not only disregarded my insights but displayed a disturbing level of arrogance and vindictiveness throughout my treatment. Dr. Varma's approach was dismissive and rude from the start. He consistently ignored my concerns and suggestions regarding my treatment plan. Despite a clear recommendation from a neurology consult to prescribe specific medication, he chose to disregard this professional advice, which he later falsely documented as followed in his clinical notes. This dishonesty in handling my treatment is alarming and unacceptable. The situation escalated when I expressed my intention to… request an ethical consult and dispute the early discharge he was forcing upon me with my insurance. In retaliation, Dr. Varma threatened to—and did—discontinue my medication, an act that not only compromised my health but also my trust in his professional integrity. This behavior is unbecoming of a medical professional, especially in a setting where patient care should be of the utmost priority. I believe potential patients should be wary of his unprofessional conduct and the potential risks it poses to their health and well-being.
