Dr. Mahmoud Shehata, MD

Sadly, we were very disappointed with Dr. Shehata. As I was trying to coordinate care for a family member, I found him very difficult to work with. He would not fax or receive faxes. He demanded cash payment, which was difficult because I had been representative payee for our family member, so it was important for me to have a paper trail of his expenses. While I did not accompany our family member to appointments, I was told by the persons who took him that Dr. Shehata spent time on his cell phone, and that visits were briefer (15 min or less) than we were informed. This doctor was not a good match. It was difficult to get paperwork from him, and as legal guardian, I received no follow-up instructions, after-visit summary, etc. If you are looking for a patient and family-centered provider that works with the family when your loved one needs on-going support, this is not your man.

Dr Shehata has been seeing my wife for 5 plus years for her biPolar disorder. He has also been seeing my daughter for anxiety for about a year. Very professional, he takes a more holistic approach than any of the other half dozen doctors that my wife has had over the years. Actually listens to the patient, and make recommendations. Sometime those are medicines, often they are not. It is refreshing to work with a doctor that isn't all about shoving more medicine at you. And, my wife has never been so stable.

I saw Dr. Shehata for three years and he worked with me closely to follow a regimen that made psychiatric sense for my case but also one he made sure I was comfortable with because anxiety only increases if you aren't comfortable with what your plan of care is. He cares about his patients. He IS direct and very straightforward so if you are looking for someone to candy-coat, look elsewhere. I highly recommend him.

i did the genetic testing for him to see what medications work best for me and instead of just raising the dosage of the medication i was already on (because I found out from my new doctor that i need a higher dose because i metabolize it fast) he had me try out 5 new medications that were either way too expensive (he didnt check) or didnt work. I have been with my new doctor for only a couple months and I am already feeling better. Do not waste your money on him.

He was openly hostile during a brief 15 minute consult--in which he answered his phone FOUR times during our interview. He asked me to bring old records, and when I did became angry that there was so much. Worst psychiatrist ever.

Every doctor I have seen since leaving this doctor has been in disbelief over how I was treated. I was given inappropriate medications due to his ties to the drug companies. Ended up in the psych hospital, then got a new doctor who is wonderful. It is worth the wait to get in somewhere else where you can be properly treated and given compassion.

Very blunt but that is good for you.

Watch out for this guy he's just got to bill your insurance he doesn't care about you
