Dr. Mala Ratan Gupta, MD

Useless when not harmful.

Although she tries to look friendly, you quickly feel her dismissive attitude and arrogance.

As a patient, I have known Mala for 15 years. She used to be a better clinician and problem solver: more reasonable, quick-witted, attentive, caring. Unfortunately, age does not spare anyone, including doctors. And cognitive changes are taking their toll. The benefits of visits become almost zero, if not a negative value. Apparently, the time has come not to keep this leadership position at any cost, but to give way to younger, talented, highly qualified colleagues. You can receive better care and attention from the PAs who support the physician in the practice and provide both compassionate and quality medical care to her patients.

Very disappointed. This PCP dislikes only younger patients so much? In any case, you don't want a physician who acts like she has Alzheimer's and megalomania at the same time.

Intimidated. This pcp only hates young patients? Either way, you don't want a doctor who acts like she has alzheimer's and megalomania at the same time.

Either Dr. Gupta has an attention deficit disorder, or she's only pretending to listen to you. You quickly become convinced that everything you say is ignored. She tends to have predetermined answers, without paying attention to important details, and quickly jumps to unwarranted assumptions that are quite often wrong. Twice the doctor did not find time for me when I had problems that needed immediate attention. No follow ups either. But when you are perfectly alright, at a regular checkup, she is literally much ado about nothing. She is clearly more interested in having more appointments rather than in her patients' health. And do not even try to express your humble opinion, even a little bit. The result won't be pretty. Since this provider is conveniently located, I tried to endure this attitude for a few years, but finally I found another physician.

Caring doctor who listens

I have been with Mala for a long time, at least 15 years, as have many of my family members. She is the absolute best. She is very smart, direct, tough when I am not doing what I need to, but very compassionate and empathetic. I have had many dr's in my life and Mala is Number One by far. When my wife was sick with cancer, Mala could not have been more helpful. She is the best!

Received better care and attention from the PA's in the practice than from actual doctor. Had a condition that required ultrasound, biopsy, etc and the doctor never placed follow-up call or expressed any concern to check in over the course of a year and a half. GP's may be hard to find in this area but that level of disregard is unacceptable. Bedside manner and communication still matter, take a page out of Verghese's book. Note: not a needy patient.
