Dr. Malia Anne Lam Shimokawa, MD

We have been with Dr. Shimokawa since our son was born. He is three now. She’s very patient with us as first time parents and is open to answering any question we may have. She has always been very responsive to us in “emergencies” and is great at following up with how we are doing. My son also loves her and isn’t afraid to go to the doctor. The office staff are also friendly and great to work with!

Called the Physicians Exchange because i didn’t know what to do with my baby and it wasn’t urgent enough for ER. Shimokawa did not answer the first page from the operator. After the second page, I could tell she was upset. Once she told me what to do for my baby, she said in a very rude tone, “you need to think about why you’re calling me. I have a family and a life.” A few days later she called to “continue our conversation”. She said that she told all her patients who called Physicians Exchange to “think about why you’re calling” her. She said that I woke up her entire family. Come to find out later, my baby had roseola and 5 teeth breaking the gums (including 2 molars) - simultaneously. The fevers were horrible, and she was in pain for almost a week. I felt stupid, and was extremely upset and hurt by this doctor’s reaction to a concerned parent, as the last thing I want to be is “that annoying parent”. What makes this situation more infuriating is that it is very difficult to… transfer to a new pediatrician, and this doctor couldn’t care less. She didn’t recognize or acknowledge that her behavior was rude and unprofessional.
