Dr. Mamoona Shaikh-Ahmad, MD

She is a great doctor who listens to me and cares. She is willing to try all sorts of things to help me with my pain. She is incredibly knowledgeable and caring.

She does not give a person an opportunity to ask questions, as she goes through your treatment plan, she will tell you “NO, I ask the questions, you answer MY questions, right now you listen”, by the time I am given permission to speak or ask questions about something that was said earlier, I have done forgot what I was going to say or ask, which is very frustrating, to say the least! And it does not help that I totally stress out over EVERY Dr.s appointment, she stresses me out more than any other Dr I have ever seen! Between her and her staff, once I am given the opportunity to speak, I absolutely WILL NOT tell them if something new has occurred or is on going, or getting worse for fear of the reaction! Seems to me like she gets upset when she starts asking questions about medicines given by her, your PCP or any other Dr. she will ask questions about the meds given (why are you taking that, and I don’t think you need to take that or take that much). To me she is not there to… question you as to why this doctor gave you this or that... I understand and AGREE she needs to know exactly what medicines your taking from a medical standpoint, and counsel you on possible interactions that could or could not happen but better yet if she doesn’t like the medication that someone else has prescribed for you then she should at least try to find a medicine that will not cause issues, that is what my other Dr.s do, and they will give me a print out of what meds should or should not be taken at the same time as others to avoid any complications, and that includes the medications that she has given me! When she is asking questions regarding other Dr.s and medications, it’s more like you are being interragated for a homicide, instead of a Dr. She is very unfriendly, and acts like you are there just to see what kinds of medicines you can get from her, she does not seem to care what kind of pain you are in, and she may or may not even give you a prescription for something that works or doesn’t even come close to relieving the problems you are having. I also understand that there are people out there that see these Dr.s for the controlled substances for less than legitimate reasons but I am not one, I would rather see one Dr and one Dr only, but as by our laws apparently this is just not an option. I’m sure she is overly qualified for her field, but she has zero personality and an “I’m not in the least bit concerned with your problems or concerns about anything attitude”. Her staff is very unfriendly as well, I don’t think anyone employed there has ever once asked me “how are you today”, much less smiled at me (including her) when you walk through the door, and maybe say “have a nice day” when you leave. My husband is also having to go to a pain management physician (not her) and his Dr. will act like he is the only person in the world at that time, he will give him the proper meds to maintain his pain and now he is in better shape physically and mentally than I am... I have had other Dr’s in Hobbs that will send me to another Dr. but will tell me I am going to find you someone in Lubbock or Midland and Odessa, because they have better Dr.s than what we have here... Of course I asked a question about something that was not in his field of medicine, but at least he was helpful, and it is sad that one of our own Dr’s would rather send you somewhere else because of our medical field here is below average or not qualified.
