Dr. Mandy Kaur, MD

gave this person one star because I couldn't give less than one. About one and a half months ago, my husband went to see this doctor for a first time visit. He made the appointment to see her from searching on the web. We are new to the area. This doctor after reviewing blood work (particularly uric acid, that was normal) decided to have him discontinue a medication and increase another one, both of which he's been on for years. Within a week my husband could not get out of bed. His legs began to cramp with excruciating pain, he became extremely dehydrated, his legs began to swell, he could not walk. He called her office for help, she told him that it was not the change in medication and that she would refer him to a podiatrist and have him come in to see her two days later. WHAT??!!! He didn't need a foot doctor! He needed a professional who is supposed to be trained in how to read blood tests and come up with the best treatment for the patient. Because we felt we weren't getting the… care we'd hope for, we went to the ER and thank goodness we did. They admitted him on the spot...it took five days and more medication to get him stable and five days for him to rehab to get back to walking with crutches. Not walking on his own, but with CRUTCHES! Needless to say, we did not keep the appointment with this doctor and what's so sad is that we have yet to hear from her since the first day my husband saw her, one and a half months ago. With help from caring professionals, we got a recommendation to become new patients in another Healthcare Group. Every healthcare professional (especially doctors) were shocked to hear our story. I would not recommend this doctor to take care of anyone I know.

With my previous PCP retiring I scheduled an appt to make the switch to Dr Kaur who had an office pretty much at the same address. The nurse I saw beforehand seemed like a very warm and caring person who took the time to ask me about my recent medical history and the medications that my old doctor had prescribed to combat it,she then told me the doctor would be in soon. Dr Kaur came in shortly thereafter,introduces herself and immediately proceeds to tell me that where i had previously been prescribed certain medications,a sleep aid and a low dose pain medication,she couldn't prescribe either because, in her own words "she's not that type of doctor." I made no mention of these medications with the nurse earlier other than to point out that i had previously been prescribed them and why yet after about the 6-7th time that I heard Dr Kaur use that phrase "not that type of doctor" in the first 5mins she was in the room it finally dawned on me what she was alluding to. She proceeded to… then tell me that I shouldn't be on these medications anyways due to some of my other ongoing health issues even though that 1) she's known my medical history for all of 5mins and 2) I had been taking these meds for years with zero complications,any issue of addiction or any reasoning that they eventually caused other health issues. I told her that I can go without the pain meds but the Ambien was needed because it's all that I've found to help me get a good night's sleep. I then mentioned a skin ailment that I've been dealing with for about 8 months and that the only medication that seemed to work was a tablet form of Lamisil. She wanted to send me to a dermatologist to deal with it even though I told her that the receptionist at my previous DR was told by Masshealth that certain aspects of their coverage won't cover DERM appts for this skin ailment. Dr Kaur then went on a tangent that this receptionist,Kim, and my old doctor had lied to me even though both went above and beyond in helping me deal with every health issue I had for many years. I tried explaining that if she just would look at my medical records she'd see that that other DERM appt wouldn't be necessary because my old Dr documented what worked for me yet she still wouldn't treat this. Out of the roughly 10-12 medications that I take on a daily/weekly basis, i only asked this new doctor to prescribe a sleep aid,Ambien, and a pill form of Lamisil for athlete's foot during this visit to which she wouldn't do either. I spent a total of about 15mins with this woman and she was BY FAR the coldest,judgemental doctor that I have ever come across. After the 6th time I heard she's "not that type of doctor" and her unwillingness to literally treat ANY of the minor health issues that I went to see her for,she made me feel like I was only there to score drugs. Where her nurse, my previous PCP-Dr Ashish Gandhi and his receptionist-Kim, who all made you feel like they all really wanted the best for you, Dr Kaur came off as the exact opposite and was unwilling to treat anything,wanting only to pass me off to the next doctor to deal with.

Dr Kaur was my PCP a few years ago, and I went for an annual checkup. It was fine and dandy, up until some labwork was recommended. She said she could take my blood herself, and save me some time in going to a lab. However, it was the most painful blood draw I ever had, and my arm hurt and had no strength for about 2 weeks after, and it slowly recovered after a couple more weeks. Upon googling around, I determined that she probably nicked a nerve, and it probably would've gone smoother if she took the blood with my arm extended resting on a table like most phlebotomists do, rather than just telling me to sit there with my arm resting down and bent by my side. So if you have her, don't let her draw your blood, and if you do, be proactive and insist on sticking your arm straight out on a table. I decided to switch PCP after that experience to a location that had an onsite lab with trained phlebotomists who are really great.

Dr. Kaur is always available for an appointment and has gotten to know me well over the years so she is not only familiar with my medical history but also me as a person. This knowledge always makes my visits pleasant as well as meaningful. I love that Dr Kaur is a no nonsense doctor, she tells it like it is which I love. But at the same time has a heart of gold and will spend as much time as you need to make sure you understand your diagnosis and are good with the instructions for recovery. She and Dr Chawla make a great team.
