Dr. Manisha Ram Punwani, MD

I write as the parent of a young woman who was in crisis in high school and is now thriving and on the road to becoming a psychiatrist herself. Dr. Punwani tailors therapy to the patient and supports it with prescribed medications if and when they are necessary -- one of the many advantages of seeing a therapist who is also an MD. She is always available to patients -- day or night, whether in town or on an overseas vacation. She even came to our home on a night when our daughter had an emergency. She balances caring with straight talk and clear feedback, and she doesn't let an adolescent patient or her parents off the hook when behavior needs to change to promote recovery. She makes personal connections -- she is not the stereotypical psychiatrist who sits in a chair nodding, writing and keeping up a wall of distant or objectivity. She uses her own life experiences to build connection and empathy and in the process helps a patient to recognize that she isn't alone. I cannot… recommend her highly enough.

Dr Punwani has an autism clinic. I like that she spends time educating about the condition and in the first session spent two hours with us. My daughter responded well to her. She took the effort to talk to her. Her care and knowledge is obvious and she is conservative in her treatment, does not rush to start medication and gave us lots of reading material. I have seen 2 other psychiatrists for my daughter but none of them educated us or spent so much time trying to talk to my child. I like their new offce and staff is friendly, girls at reception are friendly and prompt.

This doctor is kind to patients and families, she spends time with the children and has lots of children in her practice with autism. Always will give out material to read and does not use many medications. Also she worked with my childs therapist and school. We love Dr Punwani. She is very knowledgable, everyone told ud our child was ADHD but he was still not doing well, she diagnosed him correctly and now he is doing so great. Only problem is if we miss an appointment it is long wait to get in because she is busy and from what I hear her patients and the families really like her so make sure you keep your appointments.
