Dr. Manoj Bobby Subbarao Wunnava, MD

Alex was fine as intake. I was shocked that they kept me waiting for so long under fluorescent lighting to the point I missed another appointment and it delayed me eating. Dr Wunnava lacks expertise in neurological conditions such as ADHD, ASD, sensory processing/migraines. His bedside was the most dehumanizing experience I’ve ever had with a clinician. Even incompetent providers speak to the patient before dictating to his assistant. It was clear he would be totally useless with my post-op pain since he was robotically going by the ridiculous “standard of care” for hysterectomies in the United States, which isn’t borne out by almost any other country’s standard of care or expectation of recovery. A 46-year-old man insisting I shouldn’t be in pain less than two months after a hysterectomy is laughable considering every single person I know who has gotten a hysterectomy and that even the UK doesn’t really expect you to go back to work until 2 months later—assuming my post op pain was in… any way controlled. Then he required me to read a 350-page book of an angry patriarchal neurosurgeon who messed up a bunch of patients because he didn’t understand neurological conditions before any kind of pain relief. The book cites resources much better explained elsewhere in a blatantly sexist gaslighting way—he told me to fully read & absorb by next appointment and will quiz me verbally next time. I have legally required ADA accommodations for my employers that require them to ensure there are notes and allow me time to process information, the fact that a medical provider ignored this is beyond the pale. Laughably he assumed I had an advanced degree and was working because he ignored the social history or his assistant just didn’t tell him because likely knew he wouldn’t care. His assistant also called my referring physician “Ms.” instead of Dr. which I’ve never seen from a medical assistant disrespecting a female physician like that. “Pain specialists” who clearly have no understanding of their patients and they conditions they claim to treat that they keep patients with a migraine waiting for 3 hours under fluorescent lighting is beyond laughable are not specialists at all. Had I not been in so much pain and it would have been comical to write a short sketch about a doctor so clearly lacking in expertise that he ignores the patient and dictates to his assistant the entire time. Dr. Wunnava sorely needs to brush up on neurological research about over sensitive nervous systems (beyond trauma) such as ASD, ADHD, fibromyalgia and get a grip that his patients lives did not afford them the same privileges as him. I considered whether I should return because the appointment was more harm than good and all he did was prescribe an obvious fibromyalgia med that my PCP or psychiatrist could easily prescribe themselves. but after speaking to my father who is a psychiatrist I concluded this guy was going to be useless since the ridiculous “war on drugs” policies of this country is what got me into a situation where my surgical pain was completely uncontrolled, i woke up screaming in the recovery room, I fell 8 times because of a Tylenol side effect and my liver enzymes are elevated for the first times in my life, screamed all day and night in pain for weeks after surgery causing my husband to experience a manic episode. The one thing that threw him was I haven’t taken many opioids which of course I haven’t, it’s not useful for fibromyalgia which I treated on my own with pool exercise. I’m not rich enough to have access to a private pool and so because of my HS and fibromyalgia my pain conditions worsened during the pandemic since I take Humira. This guy is a caricature of himself and thinks he is evidence based when there are plenty of studies that show bedside manner is crucial for better outcomes for patients and in the case of specialities like oncology can actually save lives—I’m sure also true for pain patients who don’t have the ability to find information and specialists that actually know what they’re doing and get gaslighted and scolded by this guy. I’m honestly shocked by how bad that appointment was, even the most incompetent providers ask a few questions before just dictating to his assistant. It was worse than a waste of time it worsened my pain and my situation. What a joke. I worry about his other patients who don’t get how much he doesn’t know the first thing about what he’s talking about.

I just can't see this guy any more. I just had a virtual appointment and after hanging up, I just sat there and thought, could he really have been that insulting? He prescribed for me a highly addictive drug and refused to consider any other medication, except one I told him I am intolerant of, or any other delivery system, since the patch he likes would ensure physical addiction to a drug few people ever get free of. I found the visit pointless or actually harmful. He also seems to have some sort of religious or other unspoken agenda. The advice he left me with was to make a gratitude list every day and read this book he likes. I told him things, too, but I don't think they registered, since he sees me as an idiot. I am not. He was not conversant on any treatments other than his favorite.

Dr. Wunnava and his staff are wonderful. I my initial evaluation Dr. Wunnava was very through and discussed my entire health history. I was referred for a SPG Block and had my first treatment a week ago. It went very well and I looking for to continued treatment.

I'm a physician myself and I went to Dr Wnnava with some of the worst pain. He was able to effectively and efficiently identify an epidural injection that no one else had tried that relieved 5 weeks of agony for me. Not only that, he did it the same day, since he recognized what an ordeal it had been to get there--something I that was truly remarkable. He is a rare gem! A doctor who is so highly intelligent and compassionate. A doctor's doctor.

Always pleasant, and attentive. Been a patient for years dealing with pain from cancer treatment , along with spinal issues.

Terrible experience! I was treated like an addict for having nerve damage from gun shot. He never would explain what he want9to do to my body just told me in was in the print out and i can read it. What an awful way to treat people with real pain.

He woul barely give us 5 min and never listen yo us. Woul not recommend him.

Pleasant, prompt, spends time explaining diagnosis and treatments. I have been a patient for 4 years and would recommend highly without hesitation.
