Wasn’t she the doc that got in trouble with the board for trying to give out bad drugs? I have a friend she tried to rx a drug to help him sleep that you get before surgery. Drug pushing freak she is

Dr. Helman is a wonderful doctor. If she can't figure out a diagnosis, she will refer you to a specialist promptly. She doesn't always hear what you are telling you about all your symptoms and you may have to go back for another appointment. Dr. Helman does not take insurance, so to see her is an up-front $150.00 fee, not counting costs after you have seen her. She has been my doctor for over 10 years, and even though she doesn't take insurance, her staff will help you get the insurance forms filled out. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Dr. Helman was truly a God send for me. She has been so much more than just my Dr!!!! Dr. Helman cares for you!!! The people who are complaining about not taking certain insurance should be angry at insurance not Dr. Helman, bc if the insurance paid her she would gladly accept it!!!! I moved from Louisiana to Portland area and she is the ONLY dr who would take me. I'm so glad bc she is not just my dr now, she is my friend!!!! I feel VERY fortunate to have her. I actually have insurance that will not cover my visits to her but instead of changing dr's, I kept her as my dr bc she is that caring & honestly she is just that GREAT!!!!! What dr gives you their cell number and says if you need me please call or text me. Dr. Helman is not just my dr., she treats you like family and so does her staff!!!!!!!! I have gone in and she stayed with me for several hours to make sure I'm ok bc I work out of town constantly. I fly in to see her bc she makes me feel comfortable!!!!!!

spent the time with you not writing things down in a laptop about what you told them was wrong. I sometimes think it would be better when I go to a Doctor to pretend that I couldn't speak and let them figure out what is wrong with me. She is one that might not have the cure but will try until she comes up with the right answer.

Dr. Hellman is a good Dr. in my opinion. I will agree with one of the other comments about insurance...only some are accepted...and that's just the way it is I guess. I am actually one who has insurance that is not accepted...and I pay out of pocket rather then going to a different doctor. (If that tells you anything). The care is, from my personal experience, very accurate, and thoughtful. She doesn't always tell me what I want to hear, but I trust her opinion. She is a pro at the top of her field, with a list of some pretty impressive credentials. As for personality... that's for each person to decide. Just remember we are all people. Now, with that said.... it can often be difficult to get a visit in promptly.... but that is due to a full schedule . So that can be a bit irritating sometimes but I think its worth the wait. One more thing that I think is really important when it comes to forming an accurate opinion of her care.....and the likely reason for the negative comments....is… that she carefully screens patients to make sure that her specific care is suitable for them. I am almost certain that those who left negative comments were simply not good fits. I know that that kind of screening can be pretty annoying, trust me because I went through it. But if you are a good fit, then she's a great doc, open, attentive, and not a lot of b.s.

Dr. Helman whines about her life while she preaches to you about everything wrong she thinks you are doing in your life. She will not accept insurance, therefore, you might as well be ready to shell all of the costs out of your own pocket. Is anyone that good?

Still waiting for a referal. I have been waiting for about 2 months.

Dr Helman does not follow through with referrals or to have labs. Depending on the day she is personally having is the indicator of her bed side manner, be it caring on one visit and the complete opposite on your next. She has the ability to be very condescending, leaving you feeling hopeless.

Manya Helman is every bit a caring, and smart physician, in the best tradition of Jewish mothers!! She is vitally concerned with the health of body and soul, as in the time when she wrote the name and phone of a rabbi in Portland for me to meet, on her RX pad. She is a pain specialist and really knows her meds, as well as how to help you accept your disability and live the best life possible. She is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met - a rare doctor, indeed.
