Dr. Marc Devries Larsen, MD

I saw Dr. Larsen in the emergency room at St. Lukes because of a foot wound that I had gotten from an accident while studying abroad. One of my nurses had advised me to fly back early and go straight to the hospital from the airport because my foot did not look good; my foot was very quickly becoming black in the entire area of the wound and the surrounding tissue. Dr. Larsen walked into the room, looked at my foot and decided that it looked fine. He told me to leave the stitches in for another 9 days, leave the wound uncovered, and wash it (without telling me how to wash it). Even the nurses in the emergency room agreed with me when they came back in after the doctor left that I should not be leaving it uncovered. But I trusted the doctor. I left my wound uncovered unless I was going to be leaving the house or moving around a lot, I washed my wound with soap and water, and I made a follow up with my primary care for about a week later. When I went to my primary care doctor, she did… not like the way my wound looked, and got me an appointment with a wound care doctor the same day. Later that day when I went to the wound care doctor, she said it looked terrible, took the stitches out and had me admitted to the hospital, where I had to undergo surgery the next day. Turns out I had an infection that was causing the tissue in my foot to become necrotic. Thanks for not catching it in the first place Dr. Larsen.
