Dr. Marcey Ellen Shapiro, MD

Dr. Shapiro is a wealth of knowledge and has helped me with health issues in ways that no other doctor has been able to. I can't recommend her highly enough.

A great listener, I really feel extremely well cared for when I've visited Dr. Shapiro. She's smart, patient and a great listener, with a deep background in several areas of medicine, especially women's health, allergies, and adrenal and thyroid issues. Wonderful bedside manner, and her front desk staff are excellent. There is sometimes a bit of a wait, but it's totally worth it.

Dr. Shapiro can be very good at looking past protocols that cause many doctors to miss things. This in itself is very valuable. She also pays close attention in most cases. However, her perspective can be invalidating to real suffering. Several things make seeing her very difficult: she is expensive; the office staff is so disorganized that follow-up is very challenging. There is a staff member that makes you feel you're interrupting what her day is really about - definitely NOT treating patients. Phone calls are sometimes not returned, or returned days later. Requests get misplaced, requisitions for tests not sent home = follow through is very poor. The stress of this when you're ill is too much.

Very expensive for what you get which isn't much considering she is a private MD and you expect more personal care. Prescribes many expensive supps without really knowing what you need for your condition, and many are contraindicated for patients' conditions. Makes numerous mistakes that are critical to patient. Can seem nice, but can also be rude and invalidating.
