Dr. Marcia Irene Canto, MD

I have GERD & Barrettes and have seen a few doctors regarding my chronic condition. She is by far the most thorough and has a great “ bedside manner” addressing my questions and concerns.

Showed no interest in figuring out my issues

Have seen her for 6 years for familial cancer syndrome in which she is recognized world expert. Although it was difficult to get the initial appointment, since then she has been accommodating, thorough, responsive and competent and very pleasant to deal with.

Just had an esopogal procedure at Hopkins. ..she is incredibly skilled. ...one of the few doctors who does this type of procedure. ..everything at a Hopkins was world class.

I have gone to Dr. Canto for testing for three years. She and her staff are always polite and competent and go out of their way to be helpful, especially Hilary Cosby. I am thankful and trust them completely.

She's the best and instills confidence that she knows what she is doing. I have some unexplained allergic response and she is persistently eliminating all possible explanations to try and find out exactly what is causing my problem. Worth the wait to see her.

I had an endoscopy with Dr. Canto and from the very beginning she was very nice and talked with me in great length of the procedure and made sure I understood everything. She was really friendly and seemed to care. The staff in the endoscopy unit was really awesome. They were all fun and kept me relaxed. Everything was clean and neat inside. My only complaint about Dr. Canto is I woke up from the endoscopy feeling like I was punched in the mouth. I had a fat lip, sore teeth, sore jaw, and a sore throat. My last endoscopy at Georgetown was nothing like this. I had no pain when I had it done at Georgetown. I'm not quite sure why I woke up so sore but I have a feeling that she was just really rough! My teeth shouldn't feel like I got punched and I shouldn't have a fat lip either. When I wanted to talk to her after my procedure it was very obvious she was in a huge hurry and I felt bad having questions for her. I guess I should just be thankful that she took time to talk to me. My overall… impression of her as a person and her bedside manner was just fine. I just wish I wasn't so beat up after that scope. That really leaves a negative impression of her. Maybe I'm just being a big baby but I've had an endoscopy before and it wasn't like that. She's still a good doctor and probably knows her stuff so I wouldn't be discouraged by seeing her. Just know she's not very gentle with your face.

I have been to Dr. Canto since 2009 for screenings. Both she and her staff have been very professional, competent and kind. Her staff has gone out of their way to schedule appointments all in one day because I am from out of state. They are always friendly and helpful. Because she is a good doctor, she is busy. I do not understand the low ratings.

Nothing good to say. Bad experience from beginning to end.

Dr. Canto has been treating me for Barrett's Esophagus over the past year. I have found her to be very knowledgeable, caring and skilled in managing my treatment. She has been very successful in eliminating the Barrett's and dysplasia cells.
