Dr. Marcus L Palermo, DDS

I have just returned from Dr. Palermo's office having completed a root canal. I have nothing but praise for the professional care offered by Dr. Palermo and his staff. His attention to informing me of the details of the process, his superb and modernized equipment, and the extreme care he took impressed me greatly. I have had to have too many root canals in my 74 years, but this was THE BEST professional experience of all time. I highly recommend.

Absolute SCAM (and that's being generous!!!) So surprised to see ANY negative reviews on here, as he is known to openly THREATEN those who don't leave five stars.

What a total rip off! I took my Mom in for her scheduled 12:15pm appointment. They took her in at 1:00pm and told me it would take 1 hour and 10 minutes to do her root canal. Well, two and a half hours later she finally came out. Not only is Dr. Palermo totally disrespectful of your time, he also thinks his time is worth more than $1500.00 per hour. The bill was over $2000.00. There is no dentist on earth worth $1500.00/hr. That's just unbridled greed! Disgusting!

I was referred to Dr Palermo by my dentist Dr Jorge Oti for the purpose of having a root canal. I met with Dr. Palermo, who after a brief examination told me he thought I had a cracked root and that the best treatment would be to extract the tooth and put in an implant. And he added that I should have 2 more implants to replace missing teeth nearby. I asked him how he could be certain I had a cracked root and he proposed a high tech X Ray that was not covered by insurance because the equipment was too new. The cost for this X Ray would be $300 and I would need to pay immediately. I agreed to the X Ray , wrote a check for $300 and was told he would forward a dvd to my dentist with the findings. His manner and his office staff were both authoritative and verging on intimidating. I contacted my regular dentist to tell him about my disagreeable experience and my lack trust in Dr. Palermo. I also shared this with Dr Oti’s office manager Vanessa. When I told Vanessa she responded by saying… I was the third patient of Dr Oti that had expressed disatisfaction with Dr. Palermo. Finally Dr Palermo was not openable so Dr. Oti was unable to examine the information supposedly contained there in. At this point my dentist prescribed antibiotics for the infection and referred me to Dr. Kahn in Santa Fe. Dr Kahn did not find any cracks and proceeded to do the root canal which ultimately resolved the problem. It was my belief that Dr. Palermo attempted to disuade me From having a less costly procedure and sell me on 3 implants. I made Dr Oti fully aware of Palermo’s unethical behavior at the time.

His work was fine on my painful root canal but what was even more painful was the price I was charged. If I was told beforehand that I was going to be charged almost 2,200 I would have walked.

I was referred to Dr. Palermo by my dentist for a root canal. My dentist had examined and x rayed my tooth and had found no other problems, no cracks or other damage. Dr. Palermo did his own detailed exam and x rays and told me he suspected that the root could be cracked. The only way to be certain was to have a $300 CT Scan at his office ( not covered by insurance). I agreed to the scan which took 3 attempts for his equipment to work correctly. Dr. Palermo went over the results and never said whether or not he saw a crack, but immediately pursued a goal of convincing me to have implants, 2 for sure or even 3. I do have a bridge and the tooth that needed the root canal is a bridge support, so he proposed removing the bridge, extracting the tooth that needed the root canal and by so doing escalating the amount of work and expense. When I asked again if he saw a crack, he told me that sometimes even with a CT scan one could not be sure. Finally I said he should speak to my dentist and… report his findings, ( he said he could do this but was not in the habit of communicating with the other dentist)at which he said then, that he would do the root canal on the following scheduled visit. Fearing that I could suffer damage, as I knew he really wanted to do implants,I cancelled the appointment, reported my experience to my dentist. Dr. Palaermo bills himself as an endodontist and not an implant specialist. Implants are double or triple the expense of a root canal and I felt that he was selling me on undergoing a possibly unnecessary and much more expensive procedure. In my opinion I feel that Dr. Palermo is an unethical dentist. I would not recommend him to anyone based on my experience.

He made my problem worse, and then suggested a painful, expensive treatment (implant) which ended up being not necessary (I've had the problem fixed by someone else - no implant). He gave my medical information out without my permission. Avoid him if you can.
