Dr. Margaret Boufal, DO

Dr Margaret Boufal is VERY knowledgeable and VERY caring of her patients! I actually had the opportunity to bond with her as My Oncologist and Friend xoxo

It's unfortunate when one pursues a profession that doesn't match their skill set. Dr. Boufal is a tragic example of such a mismatch. She attempted to treat a family member in Upstate NY for a blood disorder. Her treatment consisted of nothing more than sending the lab results to an ex professor at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (not a well respected institution of learning). Pending that professor’s review, she would pass along his diagnosis as her own and fumble through an explanation to the hospital staff as to her treatment plan. She lacks a basic understanding of biochemistry and the mechanisms of coagulation. Her bedside manner is on par with her technical knowledge. In and of itself this isn’t unusual in the profession, but it does result in her having little value in either a clinical or research setting. As a result, she lacked the respect of her peers and the hospital staff. Be aware that she’s not a board certified oncologist. When pressed on this… she responded that board certification “was just a series of tests”. Osteopathic medicine has an unfortunate, and often unfair, reputation as being a path to medicine for those that couldn’t earn acceptance to an allopathic institution. This isn’t the case for every osteopath, but unfortunately Dr. Boufal is a poster child for that stereotype. In so doing, she does an injustice to all the osteopaths that provide professional and effective care. Two virtues that Margaret does not possess. Do your family and yourself a service and try to find alternate care.

Please take your loved one's somewhere else! Dr. Boufal has a terrible, unproffessional, disrespectful bedside manner that I have ever seen. The worst part is and I quote directly from her " I don't care what people think of me, never have, never will." My father suffered under her care and she had absolutely no respect for my elderly mother and her concerns. Please seek healthcare elsewhere. Buffoon is the best word to describe Dr. Boufal!

My opinion was she talked down on me ( the patient) and she is milking the health care system. Unnecessary test and wasted time.

The “Hematologist” Dr. Bouffal at Courtland Regional Medical is a Buffoon! Was referred to her by my primary care doctor(he's great). During the consultation, she told me there is NO WAY, I could have these 2 blood disorders(traits) simultaneously. Well, I already knew I had one(for the better part of 30+ years now). Over $2,000 of lab work later, at my follow-up, she told me I had the blood disorder I already know about. I told her, “I am already aware of that, remember I told you that at the first visit”. She did not acknowledge, just kept talking. “I think you have (this other) blood disorder” she said. “But I thought you told me I could never-ever have these 2 blood disorders together” I said. “I NEVER said such a thing” she shot back. Her response was so quick and sharp, I was a bit startled. I decided then and there I wasn’t continuing with this lying, bad breath, shyster. She wanted to conduct further testing. I just let her finish her spiel and got the heck outta… dodge. A physician who denies what she told her patient just a few weeks earlier? This is dangerous. She wanted to milk the system, I could smell it on her. Not at my expense, you don't!

when my father was under her care with stage 4 cancer, she never disclosed to him that he was terminal and only had afew months to live. Instead she pushed drugs, chemotherapy on to him. After a routine biopsy where his lung ended up collapsing, she insisted on putting in a chemo port even though his body was already under enough stress with having a chest tube in. When they put the chemo port in he ended up in the ICU, on life support and then he was on comfort care unit after he finally stabilized. She has horrible bed side manner, talks down to family members and obviously does not explain to patients their prognosis and gives them false hope.

Dr Boufal is the best

The doctor is good but the receptionist, Vicky, is drama!

Dr Boufal consulted on my fathers case, prostate cancer that had metastesized [?] to the spine, at CRMC.She was beyond fantastic with my father [who was grumpy and in pain] and my siblings and I [who were confused and concerned]Dr Boufal is a gift to the medical profession and patients.
