Dr. Margaret Ann Cyzeski, MD

Will never forget the day that I was discharged from GBMC and struggled to walk on my own two feet. Dx: morning sickness?!? Recently read about the high the rates of maternal death in the US and I was instantly brought back to the day the nurse scoffed at my illness and the doctor d/c without follow-up. Will never wish this experience on my worst enemy.

Dr Cyzeski is wonderful, but trying to reach someone there is horrible. They leave you on hold for 20 minutes every time you call. I had a horrible fever, but could not get a response.

Iâ??m not really the type of person who writes reviews unless I have all glowingly positive things to say. But for some reason I feel oddly compelled to share my thoughts about my experiences with Dr. Cyzeski, even though everything I have to say isnâ??t super positive. Maybe this is because Iâ??m currently working as a labor and delivery nurse so I find myself over-analyzing how my whole birth experience went, or maybe itâ??s just because birth is such a profound experience that one will remember for the rest of their life, and the doctor who delivers the baby can play a pretty big part in how you will remember things. Iâ??ll start with the prenatal stuff. I talked to a bunch of friends who work at GBMC and thought I would like a doctor who was kind of quiet and pretty much business. Dr. Cyzeski definitely seems to be pretty reserved, albeit almost awkwardly so at times. I really only saw her for a few minutes tops at each appointment and there was never much discussion or interaction… that went on at all. She typically asked me if I had any questions, but other than that didnâ??t really say much unless I did actually have a question for her. If you want to be in and out of appointments and not have to really have much interaction throughout the whole experience, Cyzeski is your girl. Eventually, this sort of feeling â??out of the loopâ?? became annoying for me and I realized I probably would have preferred someone who wants to include patients more in decisions and actually get to know them. But in a busy practice like KWHCK Iâ??m sure they donâ??t have time for that stuff anyway. Onward to the delivery. I was pretty thrilled Cyzeski was on duty the day I went into labor, primarily because I donâ??t really like anyone else she practices with and didnâ??t want some random person not even in their practice and who I had never met before to deliver my baby. She was surprisingly good throughout most of the process, not even pulling the forceps or vacuum crap to rush things along even though it was taking me a really long time to push my baby out. And I was surprised at how encouraging she seemed, especially for someone who seems so reserved. One part I take issue with though is that she definitely seems to be into the episiotomy thing, at least for first time moms. Which I honestly didnâ??t know was even a routine thing for some docs anymore, particularly because itâ??s not supported by ACOG unless thereâ??s a situation like fetal distress or something like that. But in my case there was not. And my baby was early and had a head in the 5th percentile and I could be wrong but I find it pretty unlikely I wouldâ??ve torn badly. She cut an episiotomy anyway (they never tell you theyâ??re doing it, they just go ahead and snip since theyâ??re covered by the universal waiver you signed at some point) and my recovery from that ended up being the worst part of the whole experience. I later learned that this seems to be a thing for most of the doctors in her practice and at GBMC in general. I honestly think itâ??s a pretty heinous intervention considering all the research that exists against routine episiotomy, but it can definitely shave some time off the delivery and a clean incision is easier for them to stitch up, which is why I guess some of them still do it. It might also have something to do with how litigious Baltimore is. The other thing I took issue with was the fact that I didnâ??t even have an opportunity to deliver my placenta before she started manually removing it, which was incredibly painful, and again, likely not necessary except for her convenience. All in all, I think sheâ??s a pretty competent doctor who will do a good job at making sure your baby arrives safely. She definitely seems to be one of those people who is hard to read though, and you will likely feel like youâ??re just a number at their busy practice. Sheâ??s also probably a good doctor for people who are into the whole â??doctor knows bestâ?? thing and like not really being totally involved but more so just going with the flow. If you want someone who is a little more â??patient friendlyâ?? and less likely to automatically slice everyone out of convenience I hear you might want to try Dr. Erdman, Dr. Allen, or Dr. Lin (though thereâ??s unfortunately not really any guarantees who will be on for your delivery and the doctors that practice with each of them donâ??t really seem to share some of the same philosophies/practices). Better yet, you might want to try to find a doctor at another hospital altogether because as wonderful as GBMC is (especially the postpartum care), they're definitely a baby factory that is not afraid to push interventions.

I have been seeing Dr. Cyzeski for 13 years. She is always very kind, professional, understanding, and also a good listener. She is also my daughter's OB and delivered two very healthy girls -- twins! I moved out of state years ago but still return to Maryland to see her. I can't imagine anyone having a difficult visit, as she is so caring and thoughtful. She is definitely a four star doctor.

I saw Dr. Cyzeski while my OB was on vacation. I have never felt more uncomfortable during an OB exam. I asked questions after my exam and the only thing I got as a response was "you'll have to deal with it because that's normal". Given the fact that my OB is extremely vocal and will answer all my questions in detail I was extremely disappointed in the fact that they work in the same office together. Wasn't personable at all and didn't seem to know how to deal with younger patients.

It is SO hard to find a Gyn. Dr. Cyzeski has been my doctor for years and even though I now live hours away from her, I will not change doctors. She is so caring and calming. She has amazing diagnosis skills and has diffused many stressful situations for me with experience and ease. I cannot recommend her highly enough. My sister sees her as well and we both absolutely love her. We each have had some serious medical concerns and Dr. Cyzeski has helped treat us successfully and professionally. I trust her implicitly. I can't even imagine one bad review about her.

Dr. Cyzeski is fantastic. I was looking for a doctor affiliated with GBMC because we are looking to start having kids soon and I have heard great things about GBMC. Given insurance coverage and few friends with children up near me, I had to default to websites to get patient feedback. I saw some pretty scary things about office staff (which can make a huge difference) and actual doctor demeanor that scared me away from quite a few places. Then I read a few reviews on Dr. Cyzeski and decided to give her a chance.The wait was a bit long, but it's nice that they have an alternate office if you don't feel like dealing with the area around the hospital.The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and welcoming (both on the phone and in person). This is HUGE! The last thing I want to deal with is dreading going to the ob/gyn when I know I will be worried about a million other things when we get pregnant. My friend had this and it made her anxious when she had to go in, but loved her… doctor and overlooked it. Finally, Dr. Cyzeski. She's very calm and reassuring. Answers whatever questions you have quickly and confidently. She doesn't brush off what I worried were dumb ones. She took time to sit down and really find out about me and the reasons I came in (annual check up and consulting about trying for kids). Overall, great place to go!!!!

She had a very busy day and was able to fit me in last minute for a DNC. Very nice lady!

I never imagine I would chastise a Doc as I feel a lot is perception and subjective. But I feel that I have a responsibility to share my horrible experience to forewarn other preggo's. I do not wish her on my worst enemy! I ended up with her as the on-call doc thru most of my labor (thank goodness someone else delivered me). She had crappy bedside manner-which was the least of my problem, had POOR medical judgement, lazy and did not assess the patient in person for critical issues, and sent a PA or nurse midwife to do her work. There were times I KNOW she was NOT in another C-section or delivering, so that's not an excuse she can use for never coming in to assess me. Here are just a few details of my myriad of Cyzes-asters...my intrauterine catheter stopped working. Despite me insisting that the pitocin is making my contractions stronger and the catheter probably shifted (as evident by the waveform), she just keep telling the nurse to increase the pitocin, without ONCE coming in the… room to assess the patient, touch my belly, etc. despite me and nurse expressing concerns that the catheter was functioning properly. My nurse felt my belly and I could tell she didn't agree with the Doc. So she put an external one on me and it had good tracing. HOURs later, Dr. CZSKI still HAS NOT set foot or laid hands on me since B4 the catheter malfunction, decides to send in a physician assistant to replace my IUC (I had been ruptured for about 20 hours now). Fine, new one works, old one was shot, just as I suggested 12 hours ago, if she would have come in and looked or felt me, she would have figured this out 12 hours ago. Still never came in the room.,.. then about 24 hours after I rupture, I hadn't dilated much, Dr. CZSKi finally came in & checked me and I was 3cm. She said at 4am, if I haven't progressed from 3 to 4cm, then she would c-section me. Ok, I don't like it, but reasonable. Around 4am, Dr. CZSKi doesn't come in, she sent a physicain assistant THAT HAS NEVER NEVER EXAMINED ME BEFORE in to check and see if my cervix went from 3 to 4 cm and determine if I needed a c-section. Are you kidding me, that observation is subjective enough but to have someone (not even an MD) that has never examine me before, determine whether I am 3 vs 4cm by feel is total crap, sub standard of care. This was going to determine whether I am going to have surgery or not??? I put my foot down and told them, NO i want my doctor to examine, tho i did not like her, she knew what I felt like at 3cm, and she has more grounds to decided whether my cv dilated by 1cm. The PA then says, well if it seems as though her judgement is not sound, then MD can then examine me. Again, bad care, I had been rupture for >24 hrs now, to haphazardly introduce another finger/foreign body in me (bc CZSKI was too lazy to get out of bed and examine herself) will just increase my risk of infection at this point?!? ARG. So finally the PA agree to have the CZSKI do my final exam. (mind you, at that point, it's not really my issue of having a PA, or RN or MD do the exam. I just wanted someone who had examined me prior so they can compare their blind feel interpretation of 3 vs. 4cm.) So CZSKI came in 3 hours later... and Shift changed so she decided not to c/section me. at 32 hours, Dr. Merryman, god bless her, delivered a healthy baby boy for us. I am SOOO lucky to have Dr. M deliver us. SHe is a godsent! But I would not go to her either, just for the sheer fact that her group shares call coverage with Dr. CZSKI, and I would never want to run the risk of having CZSKI as the on call Doc next time. Sorry I felt I had to leave as honest a review, bc I know I rely on patient reviews when I was looking for doctors.

Dr. Cyzeski has consistently gone above and beyond to take care of my particular issues/ concerns. She is an exceptional doctor and I would recommend her to anyone. In fact, my sister sees her too!
