Dr. Margaret Roberts Karp, MD

Dr. Karp was instrumental in helping me understand the panic and anxiety I was experiencing and she gently put me on the right track to recovery, using a combination of therapy, mindfulness training and a short period of medication. I have been stable for many years and credit Dr. Karp with identifying what was going on and how to help.

I'll start by saying I agree with the other reviews. She's disingenuous and very much concerned about money and billing. Someone else said "weirdly unsettling"...again, I agree. In terms of my own experience, I went to see Dr. Karp several years ago regarding obsessive compulsive thoughts, behaviors and phobias. They were effectively destroying my my quality of life. I chose her because she was nearby, my insurance plan covered her, and her voice sounded very sweet over the phone. After meeting her for my first appointment, I was bemused. Rather than warmth, which would have been particularly nice given what I was going through at the time, I found her to be very distanced, matter of fact, and cold. I reluctantly continued meeting her for additional sessions hoping for improvement, but this never came to pass. I at least expected to be given suggestions for coping strategies, but each session ended empty with no advice offered. I left my sessions feeling worse like a broken… neurotic who was wasting her time. With that said, if you're looking for someone with warmth and compassion, a kind shoulder and a wealth of therapeutic advice, Dr. Karp may not be a good fit for you. To be fair, she was indeed very hands on regarding phone contact, and I did appreciate this, but otherwise, not a good fit. She's more interested in her time and her money.

I completely concur with the other reviews . This doctor has a weirdly unsettling , high-handed , aggressive manner and appears to only care about money and control . Don't say you weren't warned .

I completely agree with the previous person's review, and she really is an expert at feigning empathy and does not care. She comes from a place of condescension and judgement. She is not a supportive doctor and obviously did not go into the field because she cares about people. She was negligent about really digging into my history and trying to understand my particular situation. I have bipolar disorder, and she tried to make me feel like it was all my fault. I have been seeing psychiatrists for 26 years and she is definitely in the bottom two of the doctors I have seen.
