Dr. Margaret Ann Kay-Stacey, MD

I saw "Dr Kay" for the first time last week. It was for a sleep problem caused by restless leg syndrome. She was very friendly and personable. My wife accompanied me and was likewise impressed with Dr Kay. This is telling because I am a physician, but my wife is not. She is obviously very knowledgeable and experienced. She took a very detailed neurological and sleep history as well as family history (asked a lot of pertinent questions). To our surprise she had access to the results of tests I had done nearer to home last year. She also did a thorough neuro exam. She answered our questions thoroughly and, for those she could not answer, said she would look into them and let us know. Overall, we were very pleased with Dr Kay-Stacey and felt good about my visit, her assessment of my condition and her recommendations.

I underwent a sleep study in November 2015 and was never told by Dr. Kay-Stacey or her staff to schedule a follow-up. I expected the results would be communicated to me via a phone call, a mailed copy and/or an electronic version uploaded to Northwestern's MyChart system, as occurs with all of my other providers. None of these things happened. I (perhaps naively) assumed that meant my results were normal. Now, two years later, another medical provider suspects sleep abnormalities and asked if I've ever had a sleep study. To add insult to injury, Dr. Kay-Stacey's next appointment, which I apparently have to schedule to get my two-year-old results, is months away. And in the meantime my sleep disruption continues. I've never in my life written an online review of anything, let alone a physician, but this is an example of egregiously bad care that potentially delayed a medical diagnosis by two years. Do not see her.

Dr. Kay-Stacey is an brilliant, thoughtful, compassionate neurologist who specializes in sleep medicine. She doesn't jump to conclusions, but rather methodically examines all possibilities to draw on the best approach to your sleep problem. She ensures that you understand how she has reached her conclusion and she includes you in her thinking process. She's also very thorough and puts you at ease with her high level of competency. If you're in Chicago and you have a sleep problem, I highly recommend seeing her. She really is the best of the best bright minds right now.
