Dr. Margaret Marshall, MD

Twelve & a half years after my laparoscopic thymectomy, I am still immensely grateful to Dr. Marshall. Once I was referred to her for myasthenia gravis, she promptly evaluated me and operated, which effectively put my life-threatening and debilitating progressive neuromuscular condition into remission (instead of years of corticosteroids and other medications with substantial side effects). Beyond her excellent technical skills, what has also stuck with me is her compassion, understanding, and care -- she said if I were her daughter, she would have operated on me immediately following my diagnosis, using minimally invasive technique to minimize further disruptions to my health (comorbid conditions) & functioning. Previously, I had seen a neurologist at Yale told me as a 23yo that I would have to lose additional functioning (more weakness of hands & arms, difficulty speaking and breathing, and other MG sx) before he'd consider a radical thymectomy, which involves breaking open one's rib… cage. The recovery was relatively easy and quick with her method, effectively halting the progression of MG and enabling me to address my other health conditions too. I cannot thank her enough!!!

Innovative and caring physician. Very patient-centric. Has developed new techniques in minimally-invasive surgery. Her "open" technique ("French window") is what other would call completely minimally invasive. Great communication skills with patients.

Dr. Marshall is a brilliant doctor/surgeon. She is passionate in her practice, and cares about the people who come into her life. She changed my life in so many ways. She performed an esaphagectom on me which removed almost 90% of my esophagus. It’s been almost 5 years since the procedure and I’ve lost 60lb and am able to workout again. Of the 10 incision made on my body the scares are minimally visible. I can live a normal life and enjoy foods yet stay health. She was always honest and supportive in helping me understand my limits and my options. She loves what she does and wants to change the world, as she surly has impacted mine and my families. This is my second surgery with Dr Marshall and I would go back again although I hope I won’t have to. She came highly recommended the first time and I travelled 3 hours to get her. She did a superb job, added years to my life. When I needed thoracic surgery Again I went back. She got me in quickly, took care of my problem, was helpful, explained everything. She is wonderful!

Iam so upset that mr marshall is no longer with Georgetown hospital. Most caring doctor.

She is a super excelent doctor , I had a very rare benign tumor saw J/H and they said they gonna crack my chest and would have injuired my nerve , but doctor Marshall gave me a Viedo assistant thoracic surgery with no problem and I recovered very fast ,she is an excenlent ,excenlent ..... thoracic doctor. Dr. Marshall saved my life. She diagnosed my lung cancer and removed it using video assisted thoracic surgery. I was in Georgetown University Hospital overnight; I never had any pain or even serious discomfort. Dr. Marshall and her staff visited frequently throughout my short hospital stay, checking on my progress snd kept my husband informed. My surgery was on a Tuesday morning and I was back at work the following Monday. About 15 years ago my father had lung cancer surgery using the old "crack open the chest" method and it was barbaric compared to what I had. There is no way I can thank Dr. Marshall and her team enough. She is a kind, caring and most of all an honest physician.

Dr. Marshall is one of the most caring and competent surgeons I have ever met. Her staff is excellent and always helpful - even after you leave the hospital. Colleen (in Dr. Marshall's office) is amazing and can help with anything. Dr. Marshall, her staff and students are an A+ team that you would want on your side!
