Dr. Maria Andreina Arroyo Morr, MD

I am writing to formally file a complaint against Dr. Maria Andreina Arroyo Morr, MD, for what I believe to be discriminatory actions, negligence, and poor medical practices during the care of my daughter, Saniyah, at Children’s National Hospital. Throughout my daughter’s hospitalization, I raised multiple concerns about her care, particularly regarding her PCO2 levels and ventilator settings. Dr. Arroyo Morr told me that my daughter’s PCO2 levels, which were in the 70s, were “normal” for babies like hers. However, this contradicts the information available on Children’s National’s website, which states that these levels were far too high to be considered safe. When I questioned Dr. Arroyo Morr about this, she responded by implying that babies with brain damage are kept at higher levels. She even suggested that my daughter was brain dead, despite the fact that no brain death tests had been performed. At that time, my daughter was clearly showing signs of life, including waking up,… responding to stimuli, and moving her hands. This information was ignored, and Dr. Arroyo Morr continued to assert that my daughter was beyond recovery, despite the signs that she was alive. Dr. Arroyo Morr also failed to provide adequate care, in my opinion, by keeping my daughter on unnecessarily high ventilator settings, which I believe may have been for financial reasons rather than medical necessity. My daughter’s condition worsened during this period, and she developed lung disease, which I was later told was caused by improper care. I feel strongly that my daughter’s right to proper care was violated, and I am requesting a full investigation into the treatment she received under Dr. Arroyo Morr’s care. The negligence, coupled with the discriminatory statements and failure to act in my daughter’s best interest, has caused irreversible harm to her and has been a source of immense distress to our family. I trust that Children’s National will take this complaint seriously and look into the matter to ensure that no other family faces such treatment. Thank you for your attention to this serious issue.
