Dr. Maria Clemen Leiva, MD

I went to see this provider because I was having terrible pain days before I even started my period. She advised that I should be put on the pill to help with my pain. I told her that I would prefer not to be on the pill because of my religious beliefs but if we looked at other options first, I might try it down the line. She then went on a long rant about how I shouldn't be scared of it, how there are no side effects of the pill anymore and that this was the only thing she could offer. I told her again, I was not completely opposed to it for medical purposes but I wanted to find out what was causing this ongoing problem. She said that birth control was all she could do for me so if I didn't want it, I could just take more ibuprofen and message her on MyChart when I decided to take the pill. Awful! I left and cried in the car to my husband. I work in healthcare myself and I cannot believe that she was so disrespectful to me because of my religious beliefs.

I have been Dr. Leiva's patient for 4 years and she followed my pregnancy from the beginning. She was the one who gave me a C-section because my baby turned during the 37th week. Not only I had a great pregnancy throughout which she followed me attentively, I have had the best C-section possible, quick and painless, thanks to her, and I had and easy recovery. Dr. Maria C Leiva is loved and admired by all her colleagues and patients, she has decades of experience as a leader and a doctor. It is a pity that negative and whiny people always take the time to complain and write poor reviews. Those of us who benefit from positive experiences do not bother. Dr. Maria C Leiva has been a supportive force that I can always count on and consult. You will be in the hands of a very intelligent and experienced doctor who is also a leader. I love her.

After having seen Dr. Leiva a few times over a four year period, with each visit it seems clearer that she is ready to retire. The first time I saw her, she seemed engaged and caring, but each subsequent visit was bad. She seemed tired, disengaged, and didn't ask questions about my health or seem at all interested in me or my healthcare, nor did she remember me from visit to visit. After my last experience with Dr. Leiva, I have chosen to get my prenatal care elsewhere and will not be returning to clinic in which she practices. Dr. Leiva gave me advice that was opposite what a midwife in the same practice gave. I fear following Dr. Leiva's advice could end with negative consequences for me or my pregnancy. Frankly, I do not trust her judgement.
