Dr. Maria Helena Restrepo, MD

I had Dr Restrepo at the WPB VA, after trying all conservative methods for pain relief during chemo nothing worked. She told me that it was against FL law to prescribe an opiate. I showed her the CDC guidelines. She got mad and left the room. A Nurse told me that she wrote me something and it was at the pharmacy. It was the lowest dose of Morphine, and she wanted me to take half a pill every 8hrs. After my surgery to remove my entire esophagus, spleen and cut/reshape my stomach to be pulled up and attached to my throat. She refused to follow the Pain Specialist's plan for pain control. She said "I'm not familiar with those meds so I won't prescribe them." Her oncology pharmacist, who is familiar spoke to her and she still refused. I was in agony during recovery. My last 2 infusions, she completely avoided me. Her lack of compassion and empathy was astounding. I wouldn't recommend her to anyone looking for cancer treatment. She's no longer at the WPB VA, I have my thoughts as to why...

Today visit with Dr Restrepo was devastated for my mother she was very insensitive to my mothers pain, not very professional and rude in all this process since my mother was diagnose with cancer we never had to deal with anyone like her that has not compassion when releasing very sensitive information like telling someone is nothing that we has doctors can do on your case, there is no cure for your cancer so this is Xeloda until you died. My mother was in such of distress she was crying other way in our way back to the house. That was Dr Restrepo Mothers Day gift for my mother. As a daughter and a mother too I will never recommended a Dr like her to anyone, some that is instead of encouraging a patience to deal with that terrible sickness, she made for the patience wanted to died already.

If you are reading this please seek another oncologist. My father, 55 died while being treated by Dr. Maria Restrepo at Sylvester in Deer field, A friend lost her Mother and another male friend lost both his Mother and Father under her care...all of our loved ones lost were under the age of 65! She watched my father lose 40 lbs and never even mentioned a nutritionist! She sent him across town to a pain management clinic because she doesn't write those type of prescriptions! (how do you treat a cancer patient and not prescribe necessary pain meds?) During Dads second week of chemo we asked her why he isn't receiving radiation also? She gave us an excuse that the Dr. could not operate if he has radiation. A week later his surgeon said he would not operate until the chemo shrunk the tumor....Restrepo and Soloway had zero communication btw. Each other! My father did not respond to the first session of chemo and we asked again about radiation and she came up with "radiation can not be used… with soft tissue tumor" when we asked about clinical trials, she rolled her eyes at my mother. In my opinion she is the most heartless being and should not be practicing in get field. I wouldnt send my dog to her for treatment! After 4 months of treatment we realized we were in a bad situation...so we took my Father 3 other Oncologists (Mayo in Jacksonville, Stuart Florida and Mount Sinai) All 3 were in disbelief that my father had not been treated with radiation and chemo, one Dr. said he was "perturbed!) Please save your loved one and do not let them be treated by this monster! I have so much more to say and my family is filing a formal complaint with the insurance co and also the hospital!
