Dr. Maria Eleni Sophocles, MD

This practice fails to prioritize urgent medical needs. If you have an issue requiring attention in less than six weeks, you are completely out of luck. I suppose this is fine if you just need a doctor for childbirth or an annual pelvic for birth control pills, but if you ever have a UTI, yeast infection or other medical need, you will have to go to an urgent care center.

I have not come across anyone so knowledgeable and thoughtful in her approach to women's health and my health specifically in my life thus far (I'm almost 50). I think she is incredibly booked because everyone wants to be seen by her. I am so thankful I have found someone who can help me so clearly with my medical needs.

Dr. Sophocles' knowledge, expertise, professional care and caring demeanor are very much appreciated.

Have been a patient for several years, only the first year did I see Dr. Sophocles on time. After that I always had to wait an hour for a 10 minute office visit. My last visit I left after waiting 65 minutes, there is no excuse other than she is overbooking at the expense of her patients. When you do finally get into an examination room, she is still running in and out of the room and you get the feeling she is rushing you out. There is no need to be treated like this when there are so many other qualified, caring, professional doctors.

I am a relatively new patient of Dr. Sophocles and following a few awkward and frustrating visits, have decided not to return. I found my interactions with her to be rushed and she appeared to be almost manic. I had a quick exam while she was bolting from one room to another and at my first meeting, she was pushing for me to start a serious medication usually prescribed for an illness I do not have. When I spoke to my primary, he advised to absolutely not take the medication, which I did not. Some of her comments where unprofessional and offensive. Her approach and manner seemed impulsive and made me uncomfortable.

I Dr Sophocles is the most qualified, caring and responsive gynecologist. I like the fact she is only treating women with gynecological issues. She doesn’t do obstetrics. She is great at diagnosing and resolving problems. Routine care is always good. The group has very professional and caring staff. Sometimes the wait is a little longer, but they are giving you the upmost care. And I like using the portal.

At my first visit, I liked Dr. Sophocles and her staff. I could tell she was busy but the office seemed well run. This second visit was very disappointing. I made my appointment months ago to be first thing in the morning at 8:30am so I would not be kept waiting. As my drive is over one and a half hours, I got up very early to make it there on time, arriving at 8:20. After driving through thunderstorms, busy NJ traffic, etc., and arriving early to be respectful of their time, I was kept waiting until 9:00 for absolutely no reason. At that point I got up and left. Doctors need to realize that our time is just as valuable as theirs. We have busy lives, jobs, families to care for and in today's busy world, it's unacceptable to keep someone waiting 30 minutes, especially if there are no patients before you and no emergencies. I'm really looking forward to seeing more disruption in this space from the healthcare startups. It's way overdue.

Dr. Maria Sophocles is one of the most capable and compassionate doctors I have ever met. She puts you at ease discussing all aspects of women's health. And, her practice provides incredible support for addressing gynecological issues. I've recently had massive fibroids removed, and both my surgery and recovery went incredibly smoothly. Throughout the process, I received amazing care from Drs. Sophocles and Mathews.

I couldn't have been more pleased with the care at Dr. Sophocles office. The staff was exceptionally helpful and understanding. Dr. Sophocles was kind, gentle and was able to help me with my medical issue and also with my exam fears due to a difficult experience with another physcian.
