Dr. Maria Tere Vives, MD

This doctor was a nightmare for my family. She misdiagnosed my mother with temporal arteritis and after placing her on prednisone for 6 months switched her meds to something that was supposed to help and this medicine ate away at my mothers colon resulting in her now living with an ostomy bag. It took months to get copies of my mom's records and by then the damage had been done. BEWARE!! Do your research if it doesn't feel right. It's scary to think she works with so many kids. I would not recommend this doctor to anyone. Terrible.

My 2 year old daughter has been seeing Dr. Vives for about a year now but we will be finding a new doctor. Every time we have an appointment with Dr. Vives we wait at least an hour because she schedules 10 appointments for the same time. After waiting hours for an appointment, the Dr. Vives barely spends ten minutes examining my daughter: she just asks if she is wearing her glasses yet, asks how often she is getting the eye drops she prescribed and tells me to make a follow up appointment. Even though she is a pediatric ophthalmologist she does not interact well will my daughter and does not seem to understand children. On top of this all her office staff are extremely rude and difficult.

She incompetently misread a basic lab report and told my wife she had a deadly neurological disease she didn't have. Multiple tests clearly said my wife tested NEGATIVE for the disease, but since she is either lazy or overbooked (at least a one hour wait every appointment) it appears she only glanced at one result, misread it, and violated her medical oath because she did harm. She made us think for nearly a week that my wife had a deadly disease because she REFUSED to admit fault. She refused to even admit my wife tested NEGATIVE for nearly a week. Her staggering incompetence cost us thousands of dollars in additional tests to prove my wife was negative thatv wouldn't have been needed if she had the reading comprehension of a 3rd grader. She is an awful doctor. She is an awful person. Avoid!

Dr. Vives is very thorough and even saw my daughter on her day off. She is vital to the community and extremely knowledgeable.

Dr. Vives figures out what was causing my vision problems WHEN NO OTHER DOCTORS COULD. She is an excellent physician, and extremely knowledgeable about the eyes and their neurology. She is a wonderful doctor, too - kind and caring.

I have been a patient of Dr. Gives for over ten years. She is caring and diligent in her care.

Dr. Tere Vieves treats my sister for optic neuritis who was recently diagnosed with recurring relapsing multiple sclerosis. I attend every appointment with her so I know personally what her treatment is. When my sister first saw Dr. Vieves she had lost vision in her left eye completely. Dr. Vieves ran numerous tests and began her treatment. Her right eye began experiencing the same problems but Dr. Vieves has managed to save her eyesight in the right eye and some eye sight has returned in the left eye. We have had to call Dr. Vieves numerous times during times when her eyes began experiencing more problems and each and every time Dr. Vieves saw us the same day or the very next day without hesitation. The wait times are not that long considering she is the only doctor in her office and she is the best in her field. I recommend to anyone who wants the best doctor for their eyes to contact Dr. Vieves.

I wish I could give Dr. Vives fewer stars. She was my nightmare. She misread a simple lab result and told me that I had a serious neurological disease that the labs actually said I did not have. In addition to the thousands of dollars her mistake cost me, and the countless hours I spent thinking I was going to go blind or die in the next few years, when her mistake was pointed out to her, Dr. Vives did not accept that she made a mistake delaying resolution of the situation. Still to this day, Dr. Vives shows no contrition about her mistake and claims the lab made a mistake. If Dr. Vives was unclear of the results or confused by the results, she should have checked with the lab before telling her patient. In reality, it appears Dr. Vives glanced at the labs, didn't bother to read the other 3 pages which clearly said the patient was negative for this disease, and conveyed a wrong result. My experience with her indicated a reckless, unprofessional, and honestly, incompetent doctor.… And to make matters worse, I had to sit in the waiting room for over an hour every time I saw her. AVOID.

My daughter was diagnosed with glaucoma at the tender age of 7. Dr. Vives has been her doctor since then. She is very caring and she gets right to the point. She is very thorough with every exam. I would recommend her to anyone.
