Dr. Marian Edith Bonner, MD

After a mammogram and ultrasound detected a suspicious mass, I had a biopsy done (NOT by Dr Bonner) and the pain was very mild. My oncologist then ordered and MRI which revealed a second suspicious mass. This time, Dr Bonner performed the biopsy. Not only was the procedure extremely painful in spite of the local anesthetic (my breast was purple all over for days), but here I am, three and a half months later, and I still have episodes of pain in the breast.

After receiving two imagining reports, Mammo and Ultrasound both beneign for Breast Cancer, at the Kingwood Tops Breast Center, Dr. Bonner ordered a biopsy that she would perform. When she asked where the lump was I guided her to a red spot that was where the last biopsy in 2003 was performed. She corrected me that I was mistaken, that I never had a biopsy on that right breast and that the spot was from a mole that I had removed. Tops records confirmed my statement. She was either projecting on to me someone else she was confusing me with or never read my chart at tops that notes this procedure. My own OBGYN gave me the news two days later that it was malignant, but it was only a centimeter long, very small. When the pathology report six days later was received at the consultation it read 1.9 cm almost double in size. And I was advised it could be even larger but the surgeon wouldn’t know that until surgery. I was referred to the MD Anderson where Dr. Bonner is a professor… and to Memorial Herman where Dr. Bonner is on staff. I voiced concern over the diagnosis at the initial consultation with the Oncology Surgeon at MD Anderson and my questioning was dismissed without a response. Then I was setup for preop and surgery without even being consulted on the dates. My timeline of when the data was received by MD Anderson and given the protocol that on Tuesday mornings each surgeon goes before the board of surgeons to present each case would not have been possible in my case. The preoperation and surgery was scheduled before that could have been done and I was not even consulted about the dates, which I was told would be two days later that same week. From all accounts, it appears a conflict of interest, where the data was not being collected to assess the appropriateness for the patient’s well being. But to fit into surgical dates assigned, and not following MD Anderson protocol of first presenting all the data to a board of surgeons.
