Dr. Sonen received her education at the School of Dentistry of the National University of Colombia, where she graduated at the top of her class.  She keeps abreast of the latest developments with continual course work, including post-graduate studies and direct interaction with dental clinicians in other parts of the world.  She is a leading clinician in the area of Dentofacial Orthopedics, where she holds a post-graduate degree.  In this area of dentistry helps correct crowded and crooked teeth and jaw malformations from ages as early as three.  She is a founding member of the North American Association of Facial Orthotropics.  She is also a member of the American Dental Association, the California Dental Association, the Santa Barbara-Ventura County Dental Society, the Hispanic Dental Association and the International Functional Association.
