Dr. Marie G Surpris, DO

Dr. Surpris has been my doctor for a long time now and I couldn't be happier! Her great ability for understanding my health has made my experience with her very pleasing and easy. Definitely has helped me move forward every single time we communicate.

I was misdiagnosed when I saw Dr. Surpris as a minor and had years of debilitating physical and mental side effects as a result of medication. My parents and I suspected a different diagnosis and it was dismissed when brought up. When I decided to see someone else, I was diagnosed with what my parents and I had suspected. The diagnosis from Dr. Surpris was also proven wildly incorrect. Though I am in good mental health now in different medical hands, it effects me to this day knowing how much time I spent deteriorating and how much I missed out on as a high schooler as a result of misdiagnosis and incorrect medical treatment for such an extended period of time.

Misdiagnosed my son with anxiety and depression for may years, pushed drugs, didn't care he wasn't gong to school or counseling, didn't care to ask for a meeting with both parents to get an accurate picture of what was goimg on at home. Didn't listen when i told her my son was staying up all night playing video games and sleeping all day. Didn't address video game addiction. Just pushed a controlled drug vyvance to keep him up even more on video games with a new DX of ADHD. When i told her he wasn't taking the meds in the morning as prescribed she didn't make necessary changes. Never called me or set up a meeting with both parents to get an updated picture of what was going on at home. Didn't monitor for side effects. My kid was pretty messed up and i believe it was rom the years of prescribed drugs. He has been seeing a new mental health provider who has better diagnosed him. NO ADHD, NO anxiety, NO depression. Off all the drugs she prescribed and doing better. Sometimes you just… need a new set of eyes. Doctors should make sure they speak to both parents if they want to properly diagnose children. Even after i met with her and her eyes were opened up as to what was really going on at home she reverted back to only listening the the child's mother. I told her i didn't agree to Vyvance for my son and after a few months she re prescribed it without any input from me or thought about my concerns.

I have been seeing Dr. Surpris for over 15 years. My mother brought me to her when I was 15 years old and had seen over 5 different doctors with nothing to show for it. One visit with Dr. Surpris and for the first time me and my mom felt like there was light at the end of the tunnel. When I first when to see her I was beyond depressed and had other psychologists telling me that I should just take my GED and move on with life which to me was unacceptable. Under Doctor Surpris's care I not only graduated high school with honors but I went on to a top university and from there got my MBA. Both me and my mom know that without Dr. Surpris none of that would have been possible. My family and I will forever be grateful to the God send that is Dr. Marie Surpris.

This forum should be for patients only. I’ve noticed that some of thsee reviews are not real. They have been planted by the doctors friends. That isn’t really the right thing to do. If a patient is disgruntled they have every right to their own opinion. No need for patients to stick up for the doctor. Seems to me that these reviews are planted or paid for. Not a good look.

Dr. Surpris has been the first psychiatrist (after a few) to properly diagnose me. She has provided thorough follow up, flexible scheduling (I can schedule and reschedule as long as I do so respectfully-- don't do it the day of), and she really listens to what I say (and what I don't say). I also love her secretary, Barbara, who is so personable. Every penny is worth it!

Dr. Surpris literally pulled our daughter from the brink of death. Approachable, affable, and knowledgeable, Dr. Surpris explains things in a very clear, concise way, so everyone involved is able to understand the diagnosis and treatment. Response time to questions either called in or emailed is almost instantaneous. Couldn't ask for a better physician. The East End is lucky to have her.

I have been taking my kids to Dr.Surpris for over 10 years, in that time she has proved to be one of the best doctors I have known. Psychiatric diagnosis is tricky to say the least, there are very few objective parameters (lab tests, MRI, EKG, etc) of which to base a patient's treatment. She seems to have a special skill in figuring out more than Psychiatric conditions and has recommended many things that have been very helpful to overall well being. I do wish she would take insurance though...but I get receipts and submit them so we can get reimbursed. Quality care doesn't come cheap, but she is worth every penny. My kids have been doing wonderful with her, they love and trust her, and she does work with us if we need- my daughter skypes with her while away at college, or if we cannot make it due to bad weather. I think she spends much more time than the average Psychiatrist with her patients, there is virtually no wait to see her, she makes you feel very comfortable and is very… careful and conservative with her treatment approach .

We all know the profile of a disgruntled individual…If you are proud of what you are doing you should state your name. This one in particular is not my patient but is definitely a bully. One outrageous complaint- mostly based on money. It’s unfortunate that emotionally labile adults who don’t want to take responsibility for themselves have a forum to slander a hard -working professional’s name and blatantly lie. Evaluate this character for yourselves.

Its sad but true, her receptionist Barbara is a heartless bulldog with no compassion at all. In order to get an appointment with Dr. Supris, it cost $750 out of pocket and they don't take insurance. Once you schedule the appointment, you realize that not only do I have to miss work, I have to remove my child from school to take him to her office. Each follow up is $175 and if you are unable to make the appointment, they still charge you $175. The reason for my review is because I had a family emergency and missed an appointment - I looked at my credit card and she charged $175 without even contacting me. This woman is money hungry and has no manners. Instead of charging a normal $25-$50 fee like anyone else, which seems reasonable, they charge $175. They also hold your prescriptions hostage by claiming if you can't make it in, you can't refill your prescription. I don't know how it is legal for them to charge so much money for a missed appointment. They are not covered by insurance.… The only thing she does right is prescribe meds - which has to be tweaked many times. Its sad to see the way children are being treated these days. My child begs me not to make him go to see the doctor. I am tied between a rock and a hard place because I know he needs her meds, but I know he isn't getting very far with her psychobabble. If I could give no stars I would.
