Dr Marilyn M Bui, MD, PhD

Dr. Bui is a Senior Member inthe Department of Pathology and Department of Machine Learning at MoffittCancer Center & Research Institute. She serves as the Scientific Directorof the Analytic Microscopy Core and the Chair of the Women in OncologyExecutive Board of the cancer center, and the Section Head of Bone and SoftTissue Pathology of the pathology department. She is also a professor and servedas the Director of the Cytopathology Fellowship at the University of SouthFlorida Morsani College of Medicine for 14 years until 2023. Dr. Bui's areas of expertiseinclude bone and soft tissue pathology, cytopathology, biomarker testing,digital pathology, and augmented intelligence (AI). As a patient-centeredpathologist integrating research, education, advocacy, and service, she isdedicated to providing the highest standard of patient care. She was honoredwith the   2019 College of American Pathologists (CAP)Distinguished Patient Care Award. As a key opinion leader, Dr.Bui serves as the study …pathologist for multiple research grants and has anextensive publication record, including over 230 peer-reviewed articles, 30book chapters, and three books: The Atlas of Bone and Soft TissuePathology, The Healing Art of Pathology, and the ModernTechniques in Cytopathology. Aprolific innovator, she holds three patents in digital pathology and cancerdiagnostics. She serves on multiple scientific advisory boards for industry. An award-winningeducator and mentor, Dr. Bui has mentored 24 cytopathology fellows during hertenure as fellowship program director, as well as numerous college students, medicalstudents, residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Shehas delivered more than (>220) lectured both nationally and internationally,including keynote presentations. Additionally, she actively contributes to thefield by serving on organizing committees for prestigious national andinternational meetings, including those of the Digital Pathology Association(DPA), the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP), theAmerican Society of Cytopathology (ASC), and the Florida Society ofPathologists (FSP). Dr. Bui is deeply committedto service within professional societies, recognizing it as a vital avenue toshape policies and standards that enhance the quality of patient care on abroader scale. She served as a panel member of the National ComprehensiveCancer Network (NCCN) Soft Tissue Sarcoma Clinical Practice Guidelines for 14years (2009-2023). Additionally, she serves on the editorialboards of multiple journals and is a board member of DPA, Society for ImagingInformatics in Medicine, and FSP. She is also an executive committee member ofthe International Society of Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology. Dr. Bui has had held numerous leadership roles, including servingas President of DPA (2019), President of the Medical Staff of Moffitt CancerCenter (2018-2020), President of the Chinese American Pathologists Association(2021-2022), President of FSP (2023-2025), the Chair of the PublicationsCommittee and the Editorial Board of CAP Today (2018-2021), Chair of theexpert panel of HER2 quantitative image analysis of breast cancer guidelines ofCAP (2016-2019). Currently, she serves as the Chair of the Digital andComputational Pathology committee, Vice Speaker of the House of Delegates, andex-officio member of the Board of Governors for the CAP. After earning hermedical degree there, she pursued a PhD in Immunology and Molecular Pathologyat the University of Florida (UF). She completed her residency in Anatomic andClinical Pathology at UF, followed by a Cytopathology fellowship there. Sincejoining the Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in 2005, she hasadvanced through he ranks, achieving the position of Senior Member in 2015.
