Dr. Marilyn Pupo Guillen, MD

I took my son in to see Dr. Pupo-Guillen about a year ago because he struggled with ADD. It had gotten so bad that his self-esteem was extremely affected by it. She was very cautious about the medication she put him on and offered great insight about navigating the school system to get extra help for him. He has been doing great on the medications as she continues to monitor him closely. For the first time ever he is consistently doing well in school and most importantly believing in himself again. I had not read any of her reviews prior to meeting her because she was recommended by a friend of mine. After my own personal experience with her I would definitely recommend her to my friends or family members.

I wish I had read these reviews before I made the appointment, spent half a day filling out a giant stack of paperwork, spent hundreds of dollars on the appointment and subjected my daughter to her condescension. She insulted the way my daughter dressed and spoke, criticized the attempts we had made to date to find help for her, and offered no real help. My plan had been for her to take over care from another provider, but she clearly had no intention of doing that, and when she was indicating the appointment was over, I asked her if she had any recommendations. Other than to criticize what we had done in the past, she said we could change medications. OK, I guess I will have another doctor do that. She was literally the worst doctor I have ever seen. People thought I was exaggerating when I told them some of the things she said to us, because they couldn't believe a mental health professional would insult a teen-aged child struggling with self image. I had told my daughter, who… struggles with trusting people with her thoughts, that she could open up to this person because she was there to help us, but she just made it worse and made my daughter even more reluctant to share her worries. We went to her because a friend recommended her so I guess someone likes her, but I can't imagine how.

Dr. Pupo-Guillen has been a life saver for my son and our family. As two medical professionals we recognize how important it is for a physician to be both competent and caring. She has listened to our concerns, taken into account medication side effects and has taken the time to get to know our son. Thank you! Recommend her all day long...

Stay away from this woman. Her behaves very unprofessionally.

My son made an appointment and took a half day off work to meet with Dr. Pupo-Guillen. He also spent a good 45 minutes to a hour filling out the new patient paperwork. I was on my lunch break. Arrived at 12:45 for a 1:00 appointment (as requested). She strolled through the door at 1:20 pm. We were called back to the office a few minutes later. No way she had time to read my son’s family or medical history. Asked what issues he was having. I told her that he had a very low self esteem and that he was very lonely. She sat there sipping her cappuccino and within a few minutes deduced that my son’s problems could all be solved if he would go to the gym and lose some weight. She repeatedly told him how overweight he was. That all of his problems would’ve solved if he lost about 150 lbs.(he is nowhere near 150 lbs overweight and I am positive that he is aware of it) I felt bad leaving him there, but I had to return to work. She prescribed medication without even reading his history.… He left there more depressed than ever. I left there feeling guilty for subjecting my son to the horrible hour of torture. No wait! It wasn’t a full hour that we paid for, because she was late. Horribly sad and angry that we cannot get that wasted time back. Sad for my son because he is worse off than he was before the appointment and does not want to see another doctor because of the bad experience. Thanks DOC

I was a patient of hers since I was 12-20, she is genuinely the worst doctor I have ever had. I truly believe she wanted me to commit suicide. When I was 13, she told me I had no friends because I didn't wear makeup, she was always, always cold and constantly blamed me for my own problems. I dreaded seeing her, she made me worse off. She also writes off all your problems by saying hers growing up were worse because had to immigrate from cuba (not discounting her experience but its really unprofessional to do that). Her husband is much better, see him instead.

Both my son and I see Dr Pupo-Guillen and I am very surprised at the reviews here. She has always been understanding and compassionate, the staff is great, I've never felt rushed. She picks up when my son evades answering questions and is patient as he takes his time giving every detail in his answers.

This is one of the coldes uncaring psychiatrists that I have ever met.
