Dr. Marina M Charitou, MD

this doctor is not up to speed on the potential side effects of drugs she recommends and does not either understand or want to understand how genetic varietnts can alter a person's ability to utilize the drugs therefore rendering them dangerous to her patients. She seems to be a good doctor for basic concerns.

She doesn't rush the appointment. Spent more time with me on my first appointment then my last doctor - all visits combined!

She is an excellent doctor

Dr. Charitou is not only a brilliant physician, but she is warm and pleasant. it is a pleasure to be her patient. i have moved from long island to westchester and continue to see her. i think that is quite an endorsement!

While the stonybrook office and politics leave a lot to be desired. Dr. Charitou is AMAZING i have graves disease and have seen quite a few endocrinologists. She is the first one I can honestly say I am comfortable with that I trust 100%.

She is a wonderful doctor..!!!

Just got back from receiving an FNA test {Fine needle aspiration} for my thyroid.... In my opinion .... Dr Charitou has a very steady hand as well as a sharp eye "ultrasound guided of course". I took two extra strength Tylenol about and hour before the test.. I waited about twenty minutes to be called.. I went into the room where the test was to be done. She politely introduced everyone that was there. It was an ultrasound guided test so there was a tech for that as well as another tech to be sure that the sample taken was good.. She explained everything to me that was to be done, asked me to lie down as she placed a pillow under my shoulders to extend my neck backward a bit. This makes the area easy to get to. I asked her if this was going to hurt. she said, "you will just feel pressure, but if it does hurt just tell me and I will stop" She sprays the area with a cold substance and asked me to close my eyes. the spray totally made my skin numb. I did not feel a thing "at all" as… far as pain is concerned. I did feel the pressure on my neck, but it was in no way unbearable. She had to take four biopsies of my nodule. She asked me if I was alright between each aspiration.. The actual time to take the four sample's was about fifteen minutes, if that.. When she was done, the ultrasound tech placed pressure on the area to reduce any bleeding or bruising. I had to wait about ten minutes with the tech placing pressure on my neck, the others made sure that the sample was good enough. The tech then removed his fingers which applied the pressure to my neck and placed a band aid on it. That's it, no bleeding, no bruising, no pain, my voice was fine, my throat was a tad sore afterward but that's it.. I have had worse sore throats with a common cold.... no drama.... I took the band aid off just like I would if I had received a blood test about an hour later and there wasn't even any blood on the band aid. If you have to have an FNA test on your thyroid All I can say is that for me there was apsolutely no drama. You will be fine, and if you have Dr Charitou even better.

Dr Charitou is very down to earth. She ws to the point but on a level that I could understand. She even gave me a ph# where I could speak to her personally and when did call her she had no problem talking with me. I definitely refer her to all that need an Endo. I see her for PCOS. And it was diagnosed at the first visit but of course she waited for blood work to come back. I have no issues now and I greatly suggest that you make an appointment with her should need her specialties.
