Dr. Mario Him Ming Chan, MD

I had a great visit with Dr. Mario Chan today. The staff was friendly and helpful, and Dr. Chan took the time to listen and explain things clearly. I left feeling good about my care plan. I highly recommend him and his team!

Saw Dr. Chan for my already ablazed thyroid, from years ago, because it had been years since seeing an endocrinologist, and my hypothyroid symptoms were getting really bad again, and as it historically occurs with me, my blood levels always show in the normal range. Dr. Chan made no eye contact, I could barely hear him, as he mumbled and almost whispered through his face mask. I indicated that I couldn't hear him, he didn't increase his voice volume, and just kept looking away. The entire time, I just wanted to get up and walk out. The inability to hear him, his perseveration on only one of my symptoms, brushing off all of the others, his inability and/or lack of doctor/patient interaction, refusing to answer questions, and acting like I was bothering him, were all so offsetting to me. I will never see Dr. Chan again. I've never felt this ignored, by any doctor, ever. It was actually so sad, that I cried in my way home. I wish I could give a ZERO rating.

I went to this doctor for 12 years and he still does not know me

Did not feel that Dr. Chan was very involved or interested. Not very communicative or clear in sharing or explaining LAB/test results. No compassion or bedside manner to speak of. We had to ask for repeated clarifications and elaboration when he seemed to be simply repeating past history from charts. For all intents, self -diagnosed and he agreed. Does not instill any confidence in moving forward.

Staff useless, lost reports, blown away orders and lab tests, must question authenticity.

I love Dr. Chan, but I dislike going to or calling his office. His staff does not listen well (you need to learn to play their game). There is a tendancy to blame the patient instead of helping to fix an issue. If you disrupt a staff member's flow, they will let you know you didn't do what was expected. There is no reason to make a patient feel like an idiot. I am coming to this office because I have a disease that disrupts my life on a daily basis. Have some compassion and a willingness to be helpful.

He asked many questions, a very thorough and detailed interview. However, at the end, he suggested a course of treatment based on my 10-year old diagnosis from a primary care doc without further testing. The reason I went to an endocrinologist was to undergo thorough testing to accurately diagnose and understand my condition. In the end, I spent 1:45 hours with a "specialist" who took tons of notes, explained scientific research to me, and left me with no more information or direction than before I entered. What a wasted 2 hours!
