Dr. Marita S Teng, MD

I had a very disappointing experience with this practice and ultimately decided not to move forward with surgery due to poor communication, lack of transparency, and unprofessional office management. From the start, communication was inconsistent and frustrating. The office staff was unprofessional and difficult to work with, and follow-up was delayed or nonexistent. The surgical coordinator, Victoria, was particularly unresponsive — responses were either extremely delayed or required repeated outreach on my end. When communication did occur, it lacked thoroughness, clarity, and basic courtesy. The surgical process was never properly explained, leaving me confused and having to repeatedly ask for basic information. During my consultation, I was told the procedure would be straightforward, performed under local anesthesia, and could be done at my local hospital. However, when it came time to schedule, that information completely changed. I was then told I would need to go into… Manhattan for surgery, and that the local hospital would only be an option if there were insurance issues. This inconsistency felt misleading and gave the impression that surgical location is selectively determined based on insurance rather than patient convenience or prior representations. Overall, the lack of communication, kindness, transparency, and basic customer service made me lose confidence in the practice. Surgery is a significant decision, and patients deserve clear information, professionalism, and respect throughout the process. Unfortunately, this experience fell far short of that standard.

I was misdiagnosed by her for an extremely serious illness. This caused my illness to advance and received wrong treatments for a long time. She is very cold and does not listen to her patients.

I went to her to have my thyroid out for years ago. My friend didn’t wanna go to the city to have hers done and I look at her scar at versus mine and what a difference. The doctor was nice she sat with me and discuss my options. I really loved her and four years later I’m so thankful I went to her when I see The scar I could’ve had

I am a physician and my daughter was examined by Dr Teng. She was highly recommended by our local ENT doctor for a consultation. In addition, a friend of ours who is an oncologist recommended her too. We felt that she was kind and handled our daughter very well. She is well respected in her field and has a good bedside manner.

Dr Marita Tang is condescending and the office at Mt Sinai is incredibly disorganized - I would not recommend them to anyone who is looking to be treated with respect. I went in for an issue with my vocal chords and after calling Mt Sinai ENT to make an appointment with a laryngologist- specifically citing my my vocal chord nodules as the reason for my visit, filling out new patient form where I wrote down my reason for visit, and speaking with a medical student for 30 minutes discussing my history and vocal chord polyps - Dr. Marita Tang came in and told me that she was an ENT and not a laryngologist and she could not help me. I told her I had specifically asked for a laryngologist and she condescendingly notified me that otolaryngologists are ENT’s and not the same as laryngologists, which I am aware of. Sounds like her office staff needs the lesson. Further more during my 30 minute discussion with the medical student - he attempted to put Afrin nasal spray in my mouth and had to ask… the nurse what it was for in anticipation of a scope. I don’t blame the medical student (he is learning after all) as much as I blame Dr. Tang and the office for lack of supervision and disorganization. Absolutely DO NOT recommend.

I was sent to her on recommendation only to have her treat me as an inconvenience in her day. I left feeling more confused than I went in, unfortunate since I was hoping to get some information from a professional such as herself. Total disappointment in the lack of confidence in her answers on the few questions she allowed me to ask. Totally evasive in her approach & did not ake time to review my chart prior to speaking with me. I left feeling like she was going through something personal, total lack of focus. I will seek medical attention elsewhere.

She did a procedure on my salivary glands. She barely spoke to me beforehand but was much nicer after i asked her assistant to get her to talk to me. This was a year ago. Months later I got a growth in my mouth. My dentist sent me to an oral surgeon who said I should go back to Dr. Teng and that I would need surgery. Dr. Teng prescribed prednisone and told me to see a rheumatologist. The growth got bigger. I called her back three times and never got a response. Long story short I went to another doctor and i have CANCER. She was totally negligent.

I want to express my gratitude to my wonderful doctor, who did my surgery about 1 month ago. She was very attentive, very accurate, very easygoing, and a real professional. Before and after the surgery, I felt very comfortable. I have no pain, and I didn't need to take any painkillers after the surgery. This is a doctor every patient can count on and trust. This is a doctor who is ready to listen to your complaints and pain. I'm so happy to meet this kind of doctor and I want to express my deep gratitude and respect to Marita Teng.

While no one wants to have thyroid cancer having Dr Teng made it a bearable experience. She was caring, she answered All my questions and made me feel comfortable. My scar is so minimal, even my endocrinologist asked where I got it done it was so small.
