Dr. Marjorie Safran, MD

I saw her for TRT. Had a 89.8 testosterone level. She gave me >25mg of Test C every 7 days. Prescribed a 1cc vial only. After the 3rd injection there was not enough left in the vial to do the 4th dose..I was talked to like a 4yr old and told that I will not be given the injections if I cannot do it right. After talking to several highly respected Drs they all agreed that that was crazy. If you get the .25 into the syringe and there is a bubble in it you have to push it out prior to injecting. DAHHHH!!! She then forced me to the gel which I said prior that I was not interested in. I am a hunter and rubbing smelly goop all over me was not in my plans. She is rude, dull, and not very well versed in TRT. Pass on this one...Who ever heard of .25mg for a 89.8 level....was she looking for a 25 reading?????

Obnoxious and rude. No compassion. She practically strangled me examining my thyroid.

She rushes appointments, talks down to patients, and is the least affectionate doctor I have ever met.

Dr. Safran was with a student doctor during my appointment. Being newly diagnosed with hypothyroidism, I had many questions about my condition. She seemed abrupt and didn't want to entertain my ideas on a holistic approach to improving my thyroid. I was taking Levothyroxine at the time and wanted to see if I could back off on my medication dosage by improving my diet and lifestyle. She didn't want to hear any of it and didn't properly explain her reasons to me. She was more concerned with "educating" her medical student than listening to what I had to say and addressing my concerns. Needless to say, that was my first and last visit with her.

I was put with a fellow and this doctor was her attending physician. The experience makes me question whether to ever use a teaching hospital again. Dr. Safran was very critical about my choice to try them about a current medical problem, and having ruled out their ability to help me, continued to point out what I should have done differently to avoid the issue now. Noting my tears, she further told me that I should examine why my condition bothered me this much? Meanwhile the medical student was unprofessional and continued to huff her agreement behind her. It concerns me that this is how young medical professionals are being trained at Umass.
