Dr. Mark Richard Benfield, MD

Dr Benfield is absolutely amazing with my son! We could not be happier with the services he provides. He has the perfect personality working with children and truly compassionate about his patients.

The staff was great but the doctor was excellent! While in the waiting room though, there was a patient 2 hours late or something the mom got rude because the doctor couldn't see him. Outside of that , it was a great visit!

If we could go somewhere else we would. If I have concerns he doesn't listen.We don't feel comfortable there.

Dr. Benfield is amazing! VERY intelligent and thorough; he spends as much time as you need to feel comfortable with the information and diagnosis/treatment. The front desk secretary, Cheryl, is awesome! Courteous, friendly and knowledgable, the office staff at the Birmingham office totally ROCKS!

He seems to be a good doctor.Staff can be rude.

Very nice doctor and we were able to get in very quickly for first appt. Quickly had biopsy and diagnosis of FSGS. Dr. Benefield is so easy to get in touch with if there is a question or a problem. Unlike any doctor that we have experienced , he actually speaks on the phone with us most times when there is a problem. That is priceless!!

Dr. Mark Benfield has been my son's doctor for over 10 years now. My son had a kidney transplant in 2002 and Dr Benfield has been taking care of him every since. He is a very caring doctor who goes above and beyond to make sure everything is ok. I highly recommend him and his staff to anyone who needs a nephrologist for their child.

Dr Benfield has a passion for children that I have never expererinced with any other doctor. He was very concerned with my child's problem that when saw the lab results after hours, he called me with the results. The staff is great. Concerned about my needs as well as my childs. I would follow Dr Benfield wherever he should go.

Dr. Benfield may be a specialist in his field, however he lacks the people skills to deal with patients who have to travel to see him. He will not talk to us over the phone regarding our child's problems and insists that we come in to see him when we want to talk (we live 4 hours from his Birmingham office and 2 hours from his Montgomery office).While his staff is usually professional and polite, we had several experiences that caused us to have to reschedule our appointment (this went on for three months) due to orders for lab work not being delivered from Dr. Benfield's office to our pediatrician. When we were called with a reminder about an upcoming appointment and told the staff that we were not able to get the lab work due to the orders not coming through (on multiple occasions, the receptionist rudely stated, "I'll just note that you refused the follow-up appointment and send her records back to her doctor (meaning our pediatrician).When I attempted to speak with Dr. Benfield… about these problems, he went on and on about his experience in the field and how his staff knows what they're doing and basically insinuated that all of our issues with him and his staff were our fault.If there were another Dr. that I could bring my daughter to, I would. Sadly, he is the only one that we can get a referral to. He is good at what he does (medically speaking) but his attitude leaves a lot to be desired.

Dr. Benfield is very thorough when it comes to caring for my son. If you are looking for a Dr. who is knowledgable, caring, and treats you like you are his only concern in the world, Dr. Benfield is the Dr for you. I know that without his prompt actions in serious situations and his caring attitude when addressing my concerns, my son would not be where he is today. He and his entire staff are amazing! They are like our extended family!
