I have suffered RLS for 6 years. I was attended by 3 neurologists prior to finding Dr. Buchfuhrer. The last one had me up to 2800 mg of gabapentin per day. Wrong Wrong Wrong. Dr. Buchfuhrer is the West Coast expert on RLS. He started me on a low dose of methadone and I feel so much better during the day, and manage my RLS. He was the founding doctor of the RLS support group in our area and the founding doctor of the RLS foundation Nightwalkers magazine. He i on staff at Stanford and has authored the definitive research on RLS. Besides being immensely informed and competent, he is the most compassionate of any of my doctors. His voice mail states that he will return calls the same day up until 11 p.m. And that is true!! I called in a question and he called me back at 10:15 p.m. What doctor is sacrificing his evening to call patients besides him?? When I am in the office, he spends as much time as I need answering my questions. Sometimes he seems a little experty, … mentioning that other doctors don't understand RLS like he does. But then again, it is true, so I can't consider it hubris. If you have RLS, get yourself to his office ASAP.

I have seen doctor buchfuhrer (and have taken my 12 year old son to him once or twice) for asthmatic problems, he is very personable, very kind, caring, and makes me feel welcome in his practice. Lately past 3 weeks, I have not had a chance to schedule an appointment with him for some reason, he must be travelling or going to conferences, but he is the best. My other pulmonologist is chief of pulmonary at L.R.M.C. but I have to wait hours to see him everytime I go to him.

Never met such a knowledgeable specialist who genuinely cares about his patients. He is so encouraging, you just know you're going to improve under his treatment. And you will! As mentioned, he is THE go-to guy for RLS, as well as sleep disorders and asthma issues. He's an hour drive for me too, but I'd go twice as far. His office staff is equally pleasant, dedicated and meticulous. Can't say enough good things about this practice.

Dr. B is one of the best MDs I have ever met. He spends times with his patients, and he takes time explaining everything to the patient. There needs to be more MDs like him. I am greatful for his service and the service of the staff. The staff is very friendly as well.
