Dr. Mark Allen Groh, MD

Went in with dad, Robert Hoover, last year. Said he needed open heart surgery, with no options. My dad spent 52 days in the hospital, until his death, from massive complications. I spent 49 of those days with him. Dr. Groh spoke to me about 4 or 5 times. After fighting off Klebsiella/sepsis and an "unnecessary" and an unapproved 5 day re-intubation, Dr. Groh expedited dad's transfer to Asheville Specialty, across the street, where he ultimately succumbed to a final staphylococcus (sepsis) infection, after over a month's stay. We never saw nor heard from Dr. Groh, at the Specialty hospital. He never reached out, after that. In fact he was trying to get my dad transferred to a nursing center, less than a week prior to his death. My family never heard one word from Dr. Groh or his staff, following his passing. It's evident that it's all business, and poor business at that. He did not display a single ounce of humanity.

When dealing with cardiac surgery, a patient wants only the best of the best. My husband’s experience with Dr. Groh was positive in every respect. From the initial evaluation to the end of rehab, my husband’s results were stellar.

I had aortic valve replacement and a double bypass as well as carotid endacterectomy. Dr Groh and the staff at the Asheville cardiactric unit were excellent. I went from a "dead man walking" to being able to jog again. I would recommend this Dr and hospital to everyone needing cardiac surgery - they are the best!

Smooth procedure to replace a congenital bicuspid aortic valve which was severely stenotic with a Trifecta valve, easy recovery. Now 7+ years out, swam in state senior games 3 years ago, won the 50 free, 3rd in 100 free and 50 butterfly.

In 2008,I had Open-Heart, By-Pass Surgery performed by Dr. Mark Groh. It is the hardest thing you will ever go through. Having a surgeon, of the utmost quality, expertise,and knowledge gave me great peace of mind. I had complete confidence in him. Confidence and knowledge is power. All of this, along with the GRACE OF GOD, was with DR.Groh and myself. His bedside manner is grand, and you feel he is totally vested in you, as a person, and in your improving health. Having this fine surgeon come into my life, when I was in need, is one of my great blessings in life. G
