Dr. Mark L Hagy, MD

I've only went to one appointment with Dr. Hagy and it is the last one. I can't think of another time in the medical setting that I was treated even remotely close to how Dr. Hagy treated me. I had an unknown injury at the time that I had went to the ER for. They referred me to him. It was an extremely painful injury. Upon arriving in crutches and a leg immobilizer brace the ER gave me, he told me that he was going to explain some things to me because I would start asking questions like I don't believe what he is saying. This was an off comment, but he then asked what happened. I explain, he says he wants to repeat it back to me. He does in a very condescending and unbelieving manner. He tells me I have weak muscles and perhaps a calf strain. Though the calf strain part was not written in his notes on my chart. He told me that there's nothing he can do for it, and that I'm not going to make anything worse and I need to get rid of the assistive devices and trudge through the pain. He's… loud talking at me rather than to me and asks me if I want an MRI. I don't have any time to answer because he starts talking about all the reasons I shouldn't have one. He then asks me why I'm sitting there with a face full of anxiety when he's explaining things perfectly for me. And repeats again that he cannot understand why I'm looking like that at him. His tone and body language were all very dismissive, condescending, and disrespectful. A week later I start physical therapy. It's there I learn that what happened to me was that I hyper-extended my knee with a possible miniscus tear. If I would have taken Dr. Hagys advice to trudge thru the pain because I couldn't make it worse, I definitely could have made it worse. His advice could have led to a more severe injury, a lifelong problem and instability in my knee. He walked out of the room and I didn't realize the appointment was even over. I put my leg brace back on myself and grabbed the crutches and was not helped with the door or assisted in any way. Im 40, and feel absolutely horrible that the majority of his patients are part of a vulnerable population and that they could possibly be facing the same experience. I hope none of his staff or assistants have to deal with this on a regular basis. In the end, my primary Dr ordered an MRI. I found an orthopedic surgeon at the orthopedic institute and he immediately identified the problem as a medial miniscus root tear that extruded out , lateral miniscus root tear, and a flap tear. I was soon thereafter scheduled for surgery and as soon as I woke up I had immediate relief from the pain I had been having. This took 2 months from the injury to surgery, which led to loss of income because of the inability to work. I do not recommend care by Dr. Hagy and encourage anyone that has the means to seek out the orthopedic institute in Tea, SD.

You're all correct. He doesn't care about his patients. Dr Hagy only cares about getting you in and out quick. He is greedy and cheap and and mean to his nurses. I had a knee done and it was the worst experience of my life.

Replaced my hip in2015 and 4 mths later it got so bad the pain kept me up all night sometimes, and after phone calls daily to his nurse begging for help finally after x- rays they said it had came loose and would need a revision, but 2 days before the surgery , he called and said they were going to give me shots to cure the loosing ,from some miracle Dr . in a glass he attended the week before. Come to find out , the shots were for pain , and 2 months later the pain came back and we started this all over again . I trusted this man and kept fooling around and lost a job, and on my last visit, that I was unaware of , he said he was moving to north Dakota and would not see me again, told me and my wife he was sorry, and my new Dr. would give me a revision surgery. this dr. ended up telling us he was scared to do the revision cause he had not done very many. REALLY. I ended up having it done at Ortho Carolina in charlotte . OMG these are the best Dr.s

Dr. Hagy has no care for the patients he serves. It's as if you're wasting his time if you have concerns or questions. VA-ORTHO can only benefit with his upcoming departure.

I needed a total hip replacement but mine was a complex case. Dr Hagy was not only willing to take my case, but he was also willing to use the anterior approach. This made it much less invasive and therefore a much easier and faster recovery. I was so pleased to be able to walk well by the very next day. My leg had been several centimeters shorter than my other leg. Now my legs are level and I no longer have back pain. I have had almost no hip pain since surgery and have not needed any narcotic pain medicine. Dr Hagy was very informative throughout the entire process and always very courteous and attentive. I could not have asked for a better result. I will be forever grateful to Dr Hagy for performing my surgery. His PA, John, was also extremely helpful and courteous, going well above and beyond anything I had expected. What a great team!

I had a total knee replacement almost two years ago. The pain is worse than ever. It hurts so bad at night that I don't sleep. Some days are almost unbearable. DR Hagy did not have me even come back for a follow up, although he was aware that I'm still in so much pain.

Rude and arrogant.

I think he is very knowledgable about his field , however he needs to take a class on how to get along with people . There is no follow up from his office concerning my problem

I HAD MY FOOT COMPLETELY RECONSTRUCTED. DR. HAGY WAS EXCELENT OR PERFECT. WAS A COMPLICATED AND INTRINSIC SURGERY AS HE EXPLAINED IT TO ME.END RESULT OF THE SURGERY: PERFECTION. RECONSTRUCTION A FOOT SEEMED TO ME IMPOSIBLE, BUT I CAN SAY THAT AS OF TODAY, MY FOT IS COMPLETELLY BACK TO NORMAL, NO PAINS, NO ACHES, NO LIMPING. THANKS DR. HAGY

Dr. Hagy has an extremely poor bedside manner. His attitude is cocky, and he talks so much he doesn't even listen to the patient. He expects you to diagnose yourself. His personality is erratic and his speech convoluted. He may be highly trained in his field and can perform wonders on the operating table but trying to communicate with this doctor is a nightmare.
