Dr. Mark Andrew Herman, MD

Rude, dismissive, condescending and misogynistic. We've never had a worse experience with a doctor. Not one person in that office was masked, including him, and he expects people to trust him doing surgery?

First, let me say that Dr. Martinovsky (my surgeon), Dr. Lucas, and Dr. Urban all saw me at the hospital and they were wonderful. I had my gallbladder out and a draining pump was put in. I couldn’t get an appointment until 18 days after surgery to get the pump removed. Well one week before I was to get the pump out I felt a pop and a sharp pain. Some stitches broke and the pump was pulled out a bit. I became very ill that night. I was in complete pain. I called the next day (Friday) to see if they could get me in earlier. They couldn’t. Dr. Herman was on call and he was extremely rude. I told him how much pain I was in and he said to call the office on Monday and possibly have my appointment moved up from Thursday. I told him I could not wait that long and I wanted to go to the ER. He told me that they would do nothing for me at the hospital. They would not pull out the pump or restitch me. All they would do is give me pain medicine which I already had and it wasn’t working. I stayed… home that night and the pain became excruciating. I began twitching like a person with Parkinson’s. I went to the ER on Saturday. My white blood cell count was at 24. It is supposed to be 10 or less. The doctors and nurses were concerned because I clearly had a horrible infection. Thank goodness the young PA from this office came in and I told him what Dr. Herman said to me. He immediately took out the pump. It was instant relief. Afterwards Dr. Herman came in and was surprised the pump was out. He wasn’t going to do it. He was annoyed he had to come in and told me I was fine and should just go home. He even said that whatever was wrong with me had nothing to do with the surgery! Thank goodness my PCP knew how serious it was and I stayed in the hospital for 4 days before my white blood cell count came down. If I had waited like he told me I could have become septic and died. Dr. Herman has wonderful credentials but he clearly doesn’t care about patients. He didn’t want to come in because he was on call. Well sorry that is part of your job. He needs to retire if he cannot give patients the proper care.

I’ve had multiple operations in my life and I know my way around a hospital. Dr. Herman spoke honestly with me, got right down for business, and offered a solution to my problem. Proud to call him my Doc!

Dr. Herman does not have the best bedside manner, but one should not care about that in an emergency. It took him a couple of days to come see me, but he did, and answered all my questions. No complaints!

Saw this doctor once regarding an aortic aneurism. He told me to quit smoking, as most doctors do. On my way home, my primary care doctor called me and had just spoken with Dr. Herman. He told her that he would refuse to treat me if I didn't stop smoking immediately. He didn't have the balls to tell me that to my face, which infuriated me. Needless to say I found another doctor who was happy to do the surgery and all went well.

Herman performed surgery on my leg while in the hospital. I felt the worst pain than ever before. I SCREAMED CONTINOUSLY DURING ENTIRE PROCEDURE. HE SHOWED NO CONCERN OR CARE ABOUT MY EXTREME PAIN. AFTER HE WAS DONE HE SAID NOTHING. AS HE WAS WALKING AWAY I ASKED HIM ABOUT CARE FOR MY OPEN WOUND, HE SAID WASH WITH SOAP, I SAID WHAT KIND OF SOAP.? HE SAID SOAP. AND WALKED OUT OF MY ROOM. THE WORST POSSIBLE SURGEON EVER. COCKY

Very frustrated. I was visited by this doctor and one other from premier surgical specialists in the hospital. I had a spinal fusion in four vertebrate. Pretty serious surgery. I do not remember this doctor, but I was billed for 5 visits. My insurance paid most of it. I disagrred with the visits, they turned a bill for $27.00 over to a collection agency. Who are these people???

My father required an urgent gallbladder removal. Dr Herman was very responsive and made our family feel very comfortable. I am a physician and would recommend Dr Herman.

I AM THE MOTHER OF A PATIENT. MY ADULT DAUGHTER WAS BROUGHT IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM AND NEEDED SURGERY. I SPOKE WITH DR HERMAN AFTER THE SURGERY AND WAS TALKED DOWN TO WITH EVERY QUESTION THAT WAS ASKED. I WILL NOT RECOMEND HIM TO ANYONE BECAUSE OF THE MANNER IN WHICH HE SPEAKS TO THE PATIENT AND REALTIVES THAT ARE CONCERNED AND TRYING TO UNDERSTAND. HE WOULD NOT LISTEN THAT MY DAUGHTER COULD NOT TAKE CARE OF THE OPEN WOUND BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION. THE PHYSICIANS ASSISTANT HAD TO COME IN AND PROVE TO HIM THAT SHE COULD NOT TAKE CARE OF THE WOUND PROPERLY. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR NOT LISTENING TO WHAT THE PATIENT IS SAYING.
