On Monday, April 4th, 2022, I went to Dr. Mark Hill’s office for a follow-up appointment and for surgical clearance. Blood was drawn incorrectly (on my right arm), so the technician needed to do it again (on my left arm). I took photos in case I needed future evidence of this occurrence.
On Tuesday, April 5th, 2022, I received a text message (from the text service utilized by Dr. Hill’s office) clearly stating that my prescription was ready for pick-up. I drove to the pharmacy and proceeded to wait. The pharmacist, however, was unaware of any such prescription since the text was sent by Dr. Hill’s service (and not their organization). I have saved the text for further proof, if needed.
On Wednesday, April 6th, 2022, I was contacted by Dr. Hill’s office and told that the blood (which was taken 2 days prior, on Monday) took too long to submit to the labs. I would, therefore, need to come in (again) and have the blood taken for the 3rd time. Since it was already too late in the… day, I was informed that I could come in the following day, and was assured that I would not have to wait and could go right in.
On Thursday, April 7th, I went in for my blood to be drawn again. The assurances I was given the previous day meant nothing, as I was directed to sit and wait. I expressed the above-mentioned concerns to Dr. Hill and his office manager. Instead of being mature, they became defensive and dismissive. The professional thing to do, would have been to acknowledge, accept, and apologize for their inept mistakes and ineffectiveness. In addition, he spoke details of my upcoming surgery (and release items) in front of 3 patients (in the waiting area) and his office manager (who was behind the counter). This is clearly a violation of my right to privacy as a patient. Furthermore, it took 4 attempts to finally submit my prescription information correctly.
On Tuesday, April 12th, 2022, I spoke with Maria, who stated that I could come in the following day to receive the Covid exam needed prior to surgery. I was informed to call in the morning to schedule a time for me to come in.
On Wednesday, April 13th, 2022, I called to schedule a time for the Covid exam, as directed the previous day by Maria. I was then told that I could not come in for an exam and would have to find another location to do so.
Additionally, this office has a ridiculous wait-time for patients. Waiting from 1-3 hours is not uncommon, as I have experienced this myself. It seems as is the doctor lacks the strength and confidence to hold office staff accountable for egregious behavior.
The staff are allowed to go rogue and have no fear of reprimands to hold them responsible for their actions, or lack thereof.
Run, don’t walk, away from this office as fast as possible. Search for other doctors in the Throggs Neck area. You will find quite a few better selections. You can also research their patient satisfaction on various sites. There is also a Montefiore Clinic approximately 100 feet to the left of Dr. Hill’s office.
I have filed an official complaint with the Department of Health.
Here's a recap:
1) My blood was drawn incorrectly. It had to be redone (and taken) from my other arm.
2) The office Text Service clearly stated my prescription was ready to be picked up. The Pharmacy never received the prescription, so I went and waited for nothing.
3) It took the office too long to submit my initial bloodwork to the lab, so I had to come in and have it done again.
4) The doctor spoke of my upcoming surgical procedure in front of 3 patients in the lobby area.
5) Maria told me to come in for a Covid Exam. When I called to do so, I was informed they couldn't do it, therefore, wasting my time (yet again).
6) It took 4 attempts for my prescription to be properly sent.
7) Ridiculous wait-times of 1-2 hours are common. I've experienced them myself.
The way to handle this was to acknowledge & apologize for these inept mistakes. When a d
