Dr. Mark Karides, MD

My mother who was 81yrs was diagnosed with stage 4 bone cancer - which had metastasized from breast cancer she had year prior. We ask him to be forthcoming in the prognosis. He told my mother she could possibly live another 5yrs, yet the cancer was so bad that she couldn't be transported to CDH in Wheaton where her oncologist was for the breast cancer because her bones were so brittle in her back and ribs that she could break her back. My mother agreed to the radiation, based on what he told her. In the end my mother suffered so much from the pain and radiation along with the side affects along with developing a horrible case of the shingles from what she was going through. My mother passed away 4wks later. If he had been more honest upfront, I don't believe my mother would have proceeded, and quite honestly we her children would rather her not have suffered so badly for the last 4wks of her life.- Dr. Karides was never on time for visits, and no set schedule when visiting… her at the hospital or the rehab center where she lived for the last 4 weeks.

When we first met with Dr. Karides, he explained the diagnoses and the treatment as well as the various outcomes. Once my mother started treatment of chemo and radiation, Dr. Karides seemed to be out of the picture. No follow ups, no explanation of side effects and what avenues to take. His staff would say he is busy and not answer questions as well. He never returned phone calls either. This is not the way to treat a terminal patient.

Dr. Karides and his staff provide excellent care to my husband. He was recently diagnosed with leukemia and he was referred to his office. We are very pleased with the care he has received from all of the staff. As a nurse, I look for a doctor who knows what the best treatments are and explains what different alternatives are available. His bedside manners are good. Personally, I would rather have a doctor who is equipped with the knowledge needed like Dr. Kardides rather than someone to hold my hand..that is what the nurses are for in my opinion.

Always late, never on time. No one knows when he is available. He is unreliable as a doctor, doesn't call back. Does not call back when you ask. Lacking in bedside manner, not sure he realizes it, but some of the things he says are horrible and just plain insensitive. He has very poor choice of words and does not explain things. If I did my job like he did, I would be fired.

visited 4 times and average waiting time was more than an hour. He did not provide a clear way to recover by condition but asked to make another appointment for just follow up which even copay is wasting
