Dr. Mark Henry Lipson, MD

In the late 80s at Sacto Kaiser on Morse our first child was born with a chromosome abnormality (mosaic form). When Lipson delivered the news we asked about prognosis; he said the baby would likely live a month, certainly less than a year, though he gave no specific reason for the poor outlook. He just took a thick book off a shelf and pointed to a page. We asked "don't any of these children live?" and he responded very few, but if they do they grow up to be a vegetable. Our child grew up to be a happy adult who contributes to society and has brought joy to the family. Dr. Lipson's dismissive attitude still dumbfounds me, decades later. I've always felt Kaiser provides food, compassionate care. This awful experience was a glaring exception. Hopefully Dr. Lipson is better at patient care now.
