Dr. Mark Robert Magnusson, MD

Immediately went home after our visit with him and looked up his medical license to make sure he was a licensed doctor. Hard to believe he went to medical school. One of the most simple-minded humans, let alone doctors, we’ve ever dealt with. He had a great deal of medical records about our child, dismissed them, put down providers who’s provided prior diagnoses, and had nothing to add to our child’s care/case. Implied we were the problem. It was our kid who said “I hate him” because Magnusson was so rude. He’s harmful.

Parents who see Magnusson have a child with complex health problems. Magnusson isn’t a good guy of medicine. He’s on the $$$ team. If your child has something he can easily identify and CHOP can male $$$ from the treatment, he’ll push you along that trajectory. If he has to do any work to diagnose, forget about it. Don’t believe your child “is fine” if he doesn’t have anything to say or any diagnosis to give. That just means it wasn’t an easy diagnosis for him and you should definitely seek another opinion. His diagnosis: over-inflated ego and he’s full of hot air. Watch-out for his temper if you ask too many questions.

After dealing with multiple specialists for two years who could do nothing but think completely inside the box and dismiss our 15 year old son's different symptoms as psychological ("oh he's just dealing with high school stress..."), we were referred to Dr. Magnusson. When Dr. Magnusson met with my wife and son, he had them present his medical and symptom history. Then we realized he had already read all of our son's medical records and virtually memorized everything of significance. Our son's autonomic dysfunction was diagnosed within 10 minutes. Dr. Magnusson took the time to explain everything in details and helped prepare a comprehensive plan of action to address his current symptoms and other symptoms that would come and go. He also addressed the specialists within the CHOP system who had failed to treat the symptoms appropriately. It was a life changing event. We finally had an answer, and no longer did our son have to question his own mental health. Our family is… extremely grateful for the care and compassion shown by Dr. Magnusson. BH in NJ.

Who is this guy? With an ego like that his he should have some mad skills. Glad I accompanied my son to his appointment. He dismissed my wife’s very thoughtful description of our child’s symptoms. He actually used Google to search for information to use to challenge my wife’s description of our son’s symptoms and quoted from a magazine article during the appointment, directly to us. (What?!?!) He changed the diagnosis he had previously given our son and referred us to other departments. Said his staff would be in touch to facilitate next steps, never received a follow-up call, email, nothing. We moved on and found a competent provider. Supporting an ill child is hard enough without having a doctor who acts like the annoying uncle who sucker punches kids and laughs while everyone wonders why he keeps getting invited to Thanksgiving. If you want wisdom not bloated ego, Magnusson’s not your guy.

I took my daughter to see him 4 yrs ago and then 3months ago. I didn’t care for him then and I still don’t care for him. That was our last visit. He contradicted every symptom my daughter explained to him even as if we were just there to visit. I wouldn’t waste my time see him!!!!!!

Rude as!! Office staff and pre op nurses was enough for me. I don't know who they think they are. Never got to meet dr Magnusson and don't really want to. Will be going elsewhere!! No rating at all

Our GP, who we really respect, recommended to us when our daughter was about 1.5 yo that we take her see Dr. Magnusson for some symptoms that worried him. It was very difficult to get an appointment, but we did and drove 45 minutes to see Dr. Magnusson. We related any useful information that we could think of about our daughter's syptoms to help his diagnosis. He was pretty dismissive and gave us a 'you're a hypochondriac and you're wasting my time' vibe. The appointment was a complete waste of our time and money. When our daughter was 5 yo, her developmental pediatrician (she is a great doctor BTW) recommended that we see Dr. Magnusson, at which point we related our previous experiences. She was surprised to hear our story. We decided to go again per her recommendation, hoping to actually get some help this time. We had the same exact experience. Our developmental pediatrician was shocked and said "he must be losing his touch." We finally did get a diagnosis for our daughter from… another doctor, no thanks to Dr. Magnusson though. Parents want help and answers when their child is sick - we don't want to be judged or belittled. He judged us, waste our time and money, and provided no help.

After two years of searching for answers to my daughter's unusual health compliments Dr. Magnusson diagnosed her and gave us answers. My daughter was diagnosed with Dysauotonmia, Although, no one wants to hear they have a disease that has no cure it was a huge relieve to know that my child's issues had a name. An answer allows individuals to move forward with life. Dr. Magnusson was pleasant, professional and very thorough in his examination. We are grateful for his knowledge and recommendations in what to do next.

Dr. Magnusson carefully reviewed all of our son's records, listened to my 11 year old tell his story, thoughtfully considered my husband's and my observations and presented a diagnosis that was spot on. He was pleasant, friendly, and engaging. I would recommend him to everyone who has a child with a difficult to diagnose illness. I feel confident that he prescribed the best and most useful treatment for my son.

Dr. Magnusson is not well versed in the chronically ill child. He does not follow through & when you question he belittles both the child & parent. He misdiagnosed my child, verbally abused us & called child services because we asked to see another doctor to get a second opinion. Magnusson also took it upon himself to call my child's GP to complain about us. Thankfully our GP & child services saw him for the egotistical doctor he is. He does not care about children & has no bedside manner. I have found 4 other families through a support group that had the same experience with him. CHOP needs to start earning their reputation.
